My good buddy Ranger suffered a severe stroke sometime late Monday early Tuesday of this week. I've been working with the vet trying a few different meds to try and remediate the effects, but nothing has worked and there has been no improvement to his condition, and he's paralyzed on the right side from the neck down. He is comfortable and can drink his water when I hold his head up over the bowl.
We have an appointment for 8:30 in the morning, at which time we'll do what's necessary and Ranger will slip this mortal coil.
Please keep him and me in your prayers.

So sorry to hear about Ranger. I know it hurts like hell to do what you know you have to do.
God Bless you...and Ranger.

Sorry to hear you have had to make this sad decision Joe. It’s never easy, because we want to have them with us for as long as we possibly can. Prayers for Ranger, and for you. I truly believe that we will see our old friends when we leave this earth. God wouldn’t create such noble, and loving critters without giving them a soul.

The Long Goodbye
My heart goes out to you. Our last dog, final four legged friend, suffered the same. We sat with him in the office and cried our eyes out. The empty space in our heart will never be filled. The loss is too great to bear again.
Till you meet on the Rainbow Bridge.

I feel for you. Prayers for your acceptance.
I always worried, “when is it time to bring in the vet”?
I found out it is when you can’t allow one more minute of their suffering.

Prayers.
Hopefully your vet makes house calls, seems to be less stressful for them to pass in comfortable surroundings.

Seven years ago I made the hardest decision I was ever faced with for our rescue Doberman, Ricky. It’s hard for me to articulate what I’d like to say. If you were here I’d wrap my arms around you and whisper, “I’m so sorry.” You’re in my prayers.

Very sorry FRiend. I truly feel your pain as I am surrounded by my 4 pups and have had to go through what you are 5 times before. It never hurts any less to go through it but time will ease the pain somewhat.

You have my deepest sympathy. Nothing can adequately describe the loss of a cherished animal friend. All we can do is commiserate and bear the loss as stoically as we can.
Keep yourself strong, and praise G_d for the joy and companionship you enjoyed.
The pain never goes away, but it does dull over time, and the good memories bring bittersweet smiles at the oddest times.

Joe, I'm so sad to read this. The love and care you have for your dear Ranger has always been a shining light in your posts. There are no words of comfort for such a loss. You and sweet Ranger are in my thoughts and prayers today.

Sad news, Joe - God bless both Ranger and you.
THE LAST BATTLE
If it should be that I grow frail and weak And pain should keep me from my sleep, Then will you do what must be done, For this -- the last battle -- can't be won.
You will be sad I understand, But don't let grief then stay your hand, For on this day, more than the rest, Your love and friendship must stand the test. We have had so many happy years, You wouldn't want me to suffer so. When the time comes, please, let me go. Take me to where to my needs they'll tend.
Only, stay with me till the end And hold me firm and speak to me Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree It is a kindness you do to me. Although my tail its last has waved, From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you Who has to decide this thing to do; We've been so close -- we two -- these years, Don't let your heart hold any tears.

The vet offered to do a house call, but Ranger so dearly loves his rides in my jeep, so tomorrow morning I’m going to load him up for one last little ride before we head to the vet’s. I have a very, very good vet and believe it or not, Ranger was always excited to go there.
