Dick Gautier, who starred on Broadway in the original production of Bye, Bye Birdie and then famously played Hymie the Robot on the sitcom Get Smart, has died. He was 85.
Gautier died Friday night at an assisted living facility in Arcadia, Calif., after a long illness, his daughter Denise told The Hollywood Reporter.
Gautier, who started his career as a stand-up comic, received a Tony nomination for playing Conrad Birdie, the character based on Elvis Presley, in the memorable, original 1960 production of Bye, Bye Birdie, starring Dick Van Dyke.

After “Get Smart”, he showed up on a lot of 1970s game shows like Match Game and Tattletales.
Well, to be fair, he was playing Robin Hood.
Errol Flynn didn't exactly sport a crewcut when he played the same role.
Regards,
It was the 70s.
Yes. The horrible 70’s.
I had to be in High School during that terrible period.
Those were the “good old days” compared to now.
IMHO
In a lot of ways, it sure was.
The limp 1963 version of Bye Bye Birdie omitted the two best numbers, All American Boy and Talk to Me.
I was just thinking of Get Smart as I am getting ready for the inauguration:

I loved Get Smart as a kid. In fact, I was watching the first episode that Hymie appeared in last night.
I just bought 3 of his cartoon books! One just arrived yesterday....
He was a very good illustrator.
