May I ask a question of anyone - I just sat down at my laptop to do a few things and the only site I can reach so far is FR. Nothing else. No gmail, no national weather service, Drudge, Breitbart, etc. I can mysterious access FR. Every other site I keep trying is not opening. Am I the only one this is happening to?
I get this message on Chrome:
This site cant be reached
twitter.coms server DNS address could not be found. Try: Checking the proxy, firewall, and DNS configuration Running Windows Network Diagnostics DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_BAD_CONFIG
And this on Firefox:
Server not found
Firefox cant find the server at forecast.weather.gov.
Check the address for typing errors such as ww.example.com instead of www.example.com If you are unable to load any pages, check your computers network connection. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
Who needs another site besides Free Republic?
I’d like answer some emails and check the weather too and I was going to post something on another site. Can you get on Drudge, Breitbart, etc? Am I the only one this is happening to?
Whatever you do, DON’T disconnect!
Oh yeah, and stay away from the windows...
There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission.
If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper.
We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical.
We can roll the image, make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity.
For the next hour sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear.
We repeat: there is nothing wrong with your television set. You are about to participate in a great adventure.
You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to... The Outer Limits.
Can everyone else get on various sites right now? I’d really like to know.
Whenever I get that crap I sign on through “start page.” I am not having issues tonight.
What do mean by “start page”? I AM a tech tard.
I am having no issue going to other sites.
Lots of strange stuff going on today - Comcast including internet out all over our town for a couple of hours this afternoon - except we were still fine at our house all the while - who knows?.....
yes.
I tried some of those sites, no problems here.
CGato
Internet is working fine for me.
Get a command prompt by running CMD
Do a ipconfig /a
Look for your gateway address
ping that address
If ping works, do a ipconfig /renew
and retry your access.
If that does not work, you could try a different DNS server. Follow these instructions to try using a different DNS server.

Thanks to any and all replies. Every site I try isn’t there. Modem works fine. I can get on FR. Nothing else so far.
An overload of duplicate threads, as well as blog pimping and vanities posted in Breaking News is tipping the interweb on its face.
That sounds very good. Sadly, I am a techtard and I don’t know what any of it means or how to do it. I’m not being humble or exaggerating about my techtarditis.
When I click the link to the instructions to try a different DNS server (I wonder what “DNS” stands for anyway), I get this:
Server not found
Firefox cant find the server at www.opendns.com.
Check the address for typing errors such as ww.example.com instead of www.example.com
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computers network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
Back and forth to drudge many times in the last 20 minutes.
That was FIrefox. If I try Chrome, I get this:
This site cant be reached
www.opendns.coms server DNS address could not be found.
Try:
Checking the proxy, firewall, and DNS configuration
Running Windows Network Diagnostics
