I’m surprised he lasted even this long. Michael was notorious for taking risks with his health and his safety.Each time I saw him or read an interview, George seemed very down about everything. He was very talented as a performer. Otherwise, self destructive. This was unexpected. In England, this news may crowd out the public fretting about The Queen recovering from a heavy cold. At least for a few days.

I was just watching a Youtube Christmas compilation earlier today that featured Wham’s “Last Christmas” video; Michael and bandmate Andrew Ridgley and two women playing their love interests. I hadn’t seen it in years and I was reflecting that back in the 80s, we all pretended that he was straight.

I must have heard his song "Last Christmas" at least 100 times every holiday season since about 1985. It was probably the most played contemporary Christmas song until that Mariah Carey song took over a few years ago.

Looks like 2016 will bracketed with the deaths of David Bowie and George Michael - with Prince and other notables in between. Lot of pop legends died this year.
