For those that have not the privilege to shoot a suppressed firearm. Some of our readers wanted to know if there is much differences in the actual sound of suppressed versus what you hear in the movies.
Mythbusters steps up to the plate to test this out. In this video they lightly touch on-the-how a silencer work to decrease the sound. Eventually, getting into the nitty gritty of testing the sound of unsuppressed vs suppressed. The results are:
For the suppressor owners, you already know its a huge differences. When suppressed its safe to say the sound was from "dangerous to your hearing to safe". As for the suppressed silencer that you hear in the movies, well with a little bit of sound effects, it just makes it sound cooler.
There are other benefits to the silencer gun, such as:

I have an AWC MK9A suppressor for my MP5A3.With the right subsonic load it sounds like a Daisy BB gun.
The sound in the movies is pretty far off. Typically you’ll have a clunk or clank from the weapon’s action. I have never heard one make a movie-like, soft pffzzzt.
They get very close...

Hi, All:
I got a batch of sub sonic 9mm for my suppressed cz 75, and I could detect NO difference between that and regular ammo.
Did I get a “bad” batch? Does this sub sonic stuff really work?
Subsonic ammo definitely makes a difference. Are you getting the same muzzle signature with both ammos?Do you hear a snap or crack when shooting? What brand of ammo is questionable?
Almost all purpose-loaded subsonic 9mm is going to be 147 grain. If they were 124s, differences in altitude, ambient temp, barrel length, and chamber dimensions could raise the velocity to slightly supersonic. I can’t imagine ANY 147 gr 9mm load being supersonic; there just isn’t enough room in the 9mm case for the amount of slow-burning powder needed to get a 147 past the sound barrier.
On the flip side, there is probably some guy out there in his garage working on a contraption that makes a .22 sound like a howitzer. Why? Just because he can and there isn’t someone telling him not to.
You should get a friend to fire the same brand of 9mm in 115, 124 & 147 gr and stand back twenty feet and listen without your ear protection on for the downrange crack of the different bullets with the suppressor...
The 115 & 124 will have a noticeable crack but the heavier 147 grain bullet doesn’t get fast enough to reach 1100 feet per second so you will only hear a suppressed pop from the pistol...
Any one who was married to both Anne Parillaud and Milla Jovovich must have something going for them.
