Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., recommended on Friday that President-elect Trump nominate fellow former GOP presidential candidate, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, to fill the vacant Supreme Court seat.
.
.
.
Trump has said he may consider nominating Cruz's Tea Party ally, Utah Sen. Mike Lee, who said he was not interested in the position. Goldberg said the same may be the case for Cruz, adding, "I don't think Cruz" wants the lifetime post.

I think Cruz wouldn’t want that position, he would rather stay in politics — maybe run for governor and go from there.

How arrogant. Lindsay Graham is in no position to ask for anything after the outlandish way he attacked Trump. I wish I knew what South Carolina Republicans see in this liar.

High probability that anything Lindsey wants is bad.

If you call 100% "High probability," then OK.

Exactly. We wouldn’t have to hear from him much which is a huge positive.

First things first. Is Cruz even on the list Trump has already drawn up ?

*** BUT does anyone dispute the idea that Cruz would be rock-solid constitutional conservative justice in the mold of Rehnquist/Scalia/Thomas? ***

Yes, I dispute the idea. Cruz suicided his chances for a future in politics, except maybe with Seven Mountain Dominionists.

Arthur Goldberg took the post from JFK and later regretted it; he resigned to challenge Nelson Rockefeller for governor.

He left the court and became UN ambassador for LBJ and then lost to Rockefeller in 1970.

I think it’s simply the familiar name: SC people may be too uninformed to consider alternatives.

I dislike hearing that bit of misinformation. Alan Gura was the lead counsel representing Heller. Cruz was Texas Solicitor General at the tine and he presented an Amicus brief from many states in support of Heller.

“Alan Gura, of the D.C.-based law firm Gura & Possessky, was lead counsel for Heller”

i’ve listened to recordings of his arguments when he was representing Texas - I think he would make a good justice.

He was a dick this year, and I’ll admit I supported him up until a point...then he lost me. I voted Trump in Ohio in the primaries - I admit Cruz hadn’t lost me 100% at that point, but shortly after I was...damn glad I hadn’t pushed the other button.

Legally though I think his ideas on the constitution are sound and he would make a solid justice. Better than many others. If it turns out otherwise...well I’ll eat one of my hats literally. (Freepers please hold me to this as needed).

Cruz probably doesn’t want the appointment. He very likely hopes to ride the political waves and surf into the presidency in either 2020 or 2024 depending on how things go. He is only mid-40s, plenty of time to ripen on the vine and rebuild his position as things evolve. And it could be a good thing even from an ardent Trumpian point of view, no telling how smooth the transition might be by 2024, but obviously Pence will be a big player too if he wants to be, even a good-boy Ryan could rehabilitate himself over time.

Eight years is a lifetime in politics. Right now, Cruz has more to gain than lose from a successful Trump presidency. I would expect him to realize this and act accordingly.

However, if he were to be appointed, it would be a lot better than a kick in the head. As to the idea coming from Lindsey Graham, the man walks upright so he has had at least one correct idea in the past.

he’d be about as good as it gets on the bench.

Wouldn't he have to be a US Citizen first? Same thing for US Senator?

Well, remember how nearly everyone thought that TCruz would totally dominate the Republican primary debates, but he never got his footing there.

Judge Moore is nearly 70 and would never be confirmed. Schumer wouldn’t allow a vote.
