Speaking with Wired editor-in-chief Scott Dadich and MIT Media Lab director Joi Ito in a recent interview, President Barack Obama reaffirmed his belief that universal basic income would be harder to ignore in the coming decades.
UBI is a system of wealth distribution in which the government provides everyone with some money, regardless of income.
The money comes with no strings attached. People can use it however they choose, whether to repair a leaky roof or to go on vacation. Advocates say the system is a smart and straightforward way to lift people out of poverty.
A growing body of evidence suggests such a system might be necessary if artificial intelligence wipes out a huge chunk of jobs performed by humans. That is the future Obama wants to avoid, but he said the possibility warrants a debate on basic income....

Useless eaters. Guess what happens when they become a burden?
But the Unicorns...ER, the robots provide free stuff!
Millennials seemed to have figured this out very quickly; rather than be forced to toil with the expenses of families and homes, they’ve foregone both to try to maintain a standard of living from the before-times. They’ve watched the economy ravage their parents, and are determined not to follow the same path (unfortunately, including raising families).
We’ve watched what happens when they become a burden: They vote for even more of our incomes, and are joined by foreign reinforcements.
I hate to say it but there actually is a way out of the mess the Rats have made here. It is ugly but it will work. As it turns out we have millions of folks here who are “highly fluent” in foreign languages. Conscript them as soldiers in an Army of Empire. One way Republics end is Empire, that or ashes. No need for a wall when WE OWN MEXICO. Mexico has more millionaires and billionaires than we do. The whole point of Empire is conquest. We CAN pay our debts if we take the wealth of conquered lands.
Like I said. Ugly but what are the options? Given lemons we make lemon aid.
The push to increase the minimum wage is CAUSED by this “minimum income unrelated to work” idea; low-wage workers realize they are ending up in the same position as Welfarians (even living in the same slums), so work is disincentivized. Whole cities can’t find workers to prepare the fast food for their inhabitants, so they are trafficking people thousands of miles to work the deep fryers. Rather than cut the freebies for the shiftless/lazy, they’ll try to raise the wages of those who bother getting dressed each morning (to a point; the minimum wage push only targets the least skilled/lowest paid).
I’d rather debate the merits of bankrupting Fed.gov...
Then we have no choice, really, other than conscript them as soldiers and send them home. There are gonna be more than a few countries regret sending us millions of folks they had no use for. We have no choice but to find a use for them. Leaders throughout history have had no problem putting such folks to good use.
Their use is as CONSUMERS, not workers; whole school districts would be closed already without a steady stream of young foreigners to replace the American children we won’t breed. In fact, those same school districts would be ghost towns as demand for housing evaporates in areas that haven’t had jobs in decades.
The value of a consumer evaporates quickly in the least scarcity. The value of a SOLDIER, however...
Think about it. We have millions of people here who are “highly fluent” in various foreign languages and very familiar with the customs and terrain of the lands from which they came. Many of these lands are homes to a select few of the world’s wealthiest people. Hmmm..... What in the world can you do with a 25 year old (fill in the blank) that was useless to his home country? SEND HIM AND A THOUSAND FRIENDS BACK WITH RIFLES.
EMPIRE OR DIE. That is the choice we are left with thanks to LBJ, Carter, Clinton, Bush, Obama.
It’s just money from Obama’s stash. He can print as much as he needs.
Oh, I understand the logic; I just don’t see our government shutting down the whole government apparatus in areas these people are being used to re-settle as they are abandoned by Americans. What would they do with all of those teachers, emergency responders, etc. - they are a key part of the 47% mentioned by Romney, and an invaluable conduit to transfer taxpayer dollars through their unions to Democratic Party coffers.
Soylent Green time. . . (evil grin)
And there you have it.
“The money comes with no strings attached. People can use it however they choose, whether to repair a leaky roof or to go on vacation.”
And what happens to the price of that roof repair, or that vacation? Hmmm? Poverty is not about things, it’s about values.
Duh. First responders have skills that have value beyond measure TO AN ARMY.
Look, this is NOT an idea I prefer, enjoy pondering, or endorse. I am just saying it is a POSSIBILITY. Weighed against all other options, assign probabilities and crunch= PREDICTION. “The Gods of the Copybook Headings” and all.
This is real Pol Pot “Cambodia-Sh*t”. How long before the mass executions?
Yeah. Instead of accepting that wealth is not created by governments but by citizens, liberals like him take it one step further and openly admit they will just use the currency presses to “create” wealth.
Here in NJ we have an army of first responders that nobody can afford; they certainly have value but it comes with a price - and they are bankrupting the state. Their unions ensure that they have employment for life, but they need CLIENTS - legal or otherwise.
How many cops, firemen, and EMTs does Detroit need compared to 25 years ago? That whole sequence of events is repeating itself all over the country, and not just in cities; the American population is dwindling.
Speaking to Citizen A.
See, we take money from those guys, citizen B, take 20% off the top and give you, citizen A all the rest!!!
Now, speaking to citizen B
See, we will take money from those nastey bigoted Citizens A, and give the money to you. Oh, and we keep a small administratoon fee..
Sounds like spirt killing communism to me. Always tried, always failed
