While he finds Donald Trump’s popularity unbelievable, Brad Pitt is trying to understand why people are supporting the Republican presidential candidate.
“I can’t bring myself to think that Trump will be in charge. In the simplest terms, what brings us together is good, and what separates us is bad,” the 52-year-old actor tells The New York Times’ T Magazine.
Pitt quotes the Oscar-winning film “The Big Short” and says, “When things are going wrong and we can’t find the reason for it, we just start creating enemies.”
“You gotta understand,” he tells the magazine, “that it’s also in our DNA. Most Americans don’t have time to watch CNN and Fox and Al Jazeera. They’re trying to make the rent, get the kids fed, they’re tired when they get home and they want to forget about everything. And so suddenly when this voice comes in – and it doesn’t have to be a voice of substance – saying he’s fed up with all of this, that’s the part that hooks into the DNA.”
But Pitt remains hopeful about the future.
“What I’m most hopeful about is that we’re a global neighborhood now, and we start to understand each other more and more — and yet, you see this reactionary push for isolation and separation again,” he says of Trump’s exclusionary ideas.
“A Trump supporter is fighting against just about everything,” he says. “What does he even mean, take our country back? Would someone please explain that to me? Where’d it go?”, he concludes.
For starters... Hillary wants to criminalize me and those who think like me. She’s made that crystal clear. Trump doesn’t. I don’t need to look any further. But if I did, I could find other reasons, too.

I have the impression that his diatribe on how most Americans are so busy that they don't have time to become informed is more of a projection than anything else. Those of us who take time to become informed actually understand why Trump is so appealing. Until Pitt makes that same effort to become informed (which he clearly is NOT, now), I do not think that he will ever understand. Unfortunately, his statements are such that his intellectual capacity is highly in doubt.
Don’t worry about it Brad, Just mind your own business. Obviously this is above your pay grade.
How condescending. He thinks most Americans are just too ignorant to understand things like he does. Trust me Mr. Pitt, most Americans are more informed about the issues than a spoiled, pampered, arrogant celebrity.
Just stick to making movies for your remaining fans. It’s less tedious embarrassing for everyone.
Of course Brad doesn’t hold a candle to Leonardo Di Capprio, for being tedious sanctimonious and embarrassing.
Brad can’t understand where the average taxpayer is coming from because he lives behind gates and doesn’t have to mingle with the third world rabble that Democrats have imported.
