Better education and loan forgiveness are key strategies to address disparities for Black communities and their next generations.
This is the first in a series of conversations with contributors to the platforms demands.
The Movement for Black Lives kicked into high gear last month when more than 50 affiliated organizations released demands for social change. The demands include five reparations with a list of 40 possible ways to achieve them. These range from a guaranteed minimum livable income for all Black people to incorporating an examination of colonialism and slavery into school curricula.
The government, responsible corporations, and other institutions that have profited off of the harm they have inflicted on Black people must repair the harm done, reads the document.
At the top of the list is education. Specifically, it demands full and free access to quality educational opportunities for all Black people, including undocumented and currently and formerly incarcerated people. The platform also calls for technical education, educational support programs, and the retroactive forgiveness of student loans.
The focus on education as reparation isnt surprising considering 23 states spend more per pupil in affluent districts than in impoverished districts with a high concentration of Black students, according to the National Center for Education....

WHy do they need free college when most of the ones I see are too damned stupid to pull their pants up or tie their shoes, let alone want “education”! (rhetorical)
Then, they’ll want free A’s and then jobs where they don’t have to know anything and won’t have to work.
The last time they had a coordinated push for reparations was just before the 9-11 attack.
Oh great...they will ALL want to be politicians then!! ;-) LOL
K-16 and when they’re through 80% of them still won’t be able to read.
Can’t we just send them all to Venezuela where all these things are already free?
Let me get this straight. I study hard, work my way through college, earn a good degree, and bust my butt so I can afford a house in an affluent district, and by doing so, I’m a racist pig who owes black people in poor districts free rides? Is that it?
In California 67% of High School Graduates Can Not Read or Write beyond a third grade level, according to the School Board
Welcome to the Club!
You just wake up from a really long nap?
In New York City they spend over $20,000 per year per pupil, and 80% of the “graduates” can’t read well enough to go to community college.

What kind of literacy do you need to buy free stuff with an EBT card or deal dope?
give me give me give me free free free Im sick of them
You do have a Valid point, I guess you just need to be able to count to 15, that is how many rounds my 9mm holds
You want reparations? Go to the Africa Tribes that captured your ancestors or the Muslim slave traders that bought your ancestors from them.
And what will they do with more college degrees?
Work for government, of course.
In January 2008, just before the Great Recession hit, about one third of Black college graduates were employed by a government agency or by a government contractor.
Can’t the universities just send BLM blank diplomas and have them fill them out with whatever name and major they want.
It’s not likely an employer will be fooled by some gangbanger talking ebonics while wearing pants hanging around his knees, and showing a Harvard doctoral degree in whatever.
You don’t like it here, the solution is simple, go back to Africa! Take the 1-way “Roots” journey and quit complaining.
Freesh1t has no value to those who demand it.
They just thinks they get whats they owed. /urbslang off
