Spear hunting sounds primitive but lately has come under fire from some who feel it is too brutal. Spear hunter Michel Blanchett has been spear hunting for 7 years. He claims this primitive way of hunting is the most ethical as it pits you against your game at close range with one throw to get your game. This type of hunting is for the elite hunter
This allows game to have a better chance against a hunter than it would against a long distance rifle shooter or even a modern archery armed hunter. What is your stance on spear hunting? See the action here.
Yes.
Mis-remembered Argentina.
The pistol is a S&W .38, as I recall.
“Wild boar come in all sizes. Wonder which sized he chose?”
I don’t remember, this is a memory that must be at least 30 years old. I seriously doubt it was “Hogzilla”-size, but I think any size hog would put up a fight.
They were tough frogs.
I think you’re remembering the Siemel chapter opening describing the Matto Grosso native that was hunted by the man eating Jaguar, which is just about all of them. That set the scene.
Siemel’s spear hunting teacher might have died in a hunt, but my memory is not clear on that.
Ok....now you’ve got me wanting to re-read Capstick’s book, yet again. That’s a plus.
Brittney Spear Fishing ?
Peter Capstick certainly had some great books. He was a good story teller. I know a guy who knew Peter Capstick a bit. First met him in a Nairobi bar where a bunch of hunting guides would hang out. He said he was fun to listen to but he always took his stories with a grain of salt. He felt that Capstick was guilty of some poetic license in his stories.
well, it was in a bar, so a certain amount of leeway is tolerable.
It’s not as if he said he shot an elephant in his pajamas is it.
;>.
The impression that I get is that my friend believes that the stories are generally true but maybe described in a more colorful fashion than really occurred. Even with that caveat, my friend is a fan of Capstick’s writings.
