If we don't stop making excuses for the actions of bad people, all Americans will start shooting one another.
Less than a week after five Dallas law enforcement officers were killed by a lunatic gunman, the nation is again reeling from a deadly confrontation between cops and an ex-military extremist. This past Sunday, former Marine Gavin Long gunned down three officers in Baton Rouge, a city on edge after police shot Alton Sterling, a black man, on July 5.
I dread the day one of my cop friends is shot by a crazy shooter seeking revenge for the murder of an innocent black person.
Make no mistake, I love and respect good cops. Over the years, I've become friends with many officers who try hard to connect with the black communities they serve. But I have a problem with bad cops, just like I have issues with bad African-Americans who kill innocent kids in Miami's inner-city neighborhoods.
We will never get past this issue unless the police fraternity tears down the blue wall of silence. We need to have hard conversations about cops — regardless of their race or ethnicity — protecting bad apples. Sometimes, officers do nothing though they know colleagues abuse the badge and break the law.
Homicide investigators often plead with African-Americans to end the no-snitching culture. Yet no one tells cops to do the same. Departments and unions that stop protecting bad cops can send a message that no institution is above the law. A person can be charged as an accessory to murder for witnessing a homicide and not reporting it to law enforcement. Why can't the cop who stays silent about an unjustified killing be charged with the same crime?
Even prosecutors rarely bring charges against killer cops because laws are designed to protect law enforcement officials. They also fear pissing off police departments.
We are on the verge of a civil war. If we don't stop making excuses for the actions of bad people, all Americans will start shooting one another.

Nonsense.
Although blacks are generally stronger physically than other racial groups, I don’t think they are advantageous in a civil war where guns and brain are used. So the author better pray there won’t be a civil war in future if he has the best interest of blacks in mind.
As far as I can see, in most of these recent cases, it’s bad black people that are being protected, not bad cops.
In the couple of instances where the cop was at fault, those cops are in jail awaiting trial or already sentenced.

Is he talking about the Treyvons? The Michael Browns? the thugs in Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, LA? The generations of black families where no one works? The black men who father 80% of the kids born out of wedlock? The baby moms?
What innocent “victim” is he referring to?
That description is too kind.
Every bad cop that was ever brought to justice was first arrested by another cop.
I have had to do it twice.
For sake of discussion both of the officers I investigated, sadly, were black officers.
Generalized statements like “bad cops” need to be clarified. What exactly is meant by that? Is the behavior they are engaged in really “bad” or is it an opinion?
As a race they tend to have certain attributes that are advantageous in a few high profile sporting venues not particularly applicable to the real world.
Isn’t it really past time that blacks and white go their separate way?
How many more hundreds of years of this crap do we need to go through before both sides realize that we don’t get along and probably never will.
How about a friendly separation with each side getting their own country and running their affairs as they please.

Sounds suspiciously like Obama’s speech that police need to admit when they are wrong. They do .... and officers are charged with crimes if they have committed them.

Policing is a dangerous business. A lot of room for mistakes. Crimes have motives. No motive, no crime.
The BLACK CRIME needs to stop.
It’s not that we don’t get along, they don’t get along.
They hate everyone, including themselves. In fact, they are racist against themselves.
If you are a dark skinned black person, you are going to get it from light skinned blacks.
I have tried to make this argument for years, and have made it a point to say that this fantasy notion that black Americans are going to pack up for the motherland is exactly that, fantasy.
No one wants to even entertain the idea of ceding some territory to them to avoid a bloody civil war, one which the outcome is certain but heavily expensive in terms of lives and material wealth lost, such that we may find ourselves no longer a world leader.
I would vacate my home tomorrow if meant separation. But where I live is logistically unfeasible for them to have and make workable.
