Longtime hog nemesis Brian "Pigman" Quaca shows off his new toy from Savage Arms a .300 Win Mag by flattening a 270+ pound wild boar on this hunt.
This video highlights the action, though the video clip doesnt show it, Pigman was actually busy playing on his phone and didn't notice the hog come out at first (we've all been there before, right?).
Fortunately for him, the camera guy was on his game and got his attention. At that point, it was just a matter of putting his round on target, which he did like a true professional using his non-dominant eye better than many hunters do with their strong eye. See the video here.
Beau is going on a Hog Hunt in January in Texas. I’m going with, but I’m staying at the Spa/Casino for the weekend. ;)
Aside from that, it's always fun to watch these videos.
Lotta bacon ...
270 lbs is monster?
Great shot. Great sporting takedown.
Not so much bacon in a wild pig.
Yup. 250 lbs is market weight. I have seen boars in Kalifornia that were 450 plus.
For kids....You want a real Boar hunt use a bow.
270 pounds is a baby. Up here in the piney woods of East Texas, they get bigger than Honda 4-wheelers. I’ve killed bigger pigs than that with a .22 long rifle. You don’t want to shoot the big boars anyway. The shoats and sows are much better eating.
No need for that cannon
Geez
I’ve shot most with a 243
30-30 very common
Mini 14 in 223 quite common too
...or spear.
You and me both.....I’ve never seen anyone use an elk gun on hogs
But hey whatever
It’s like my 54 jaeger on white tails
I’ve yet have one go over 25 yards after being hit
My son prefers 45-70 for woods deer same reason
I kill mine with Kimchi breath.....
You have to get really close
I’ve killed many of them with a 22 hollow point.
Course I was much closer.
Much closer.
I’m a .45-70 fan myself: big bullet = big hole, low velocity, not a lot of tissue damage, but the critters drop when they’re hit.
Ha.
For real alpha male fun use a knife.
I just saw a movie called “Hunt for the Wilderpeople”,filmed in New Zealand.
I was STUNNED at the size of the wild boars filmed in the bush country.
.
It is a boar. The stench from cooking it will make the meat inedible.
Do like they do wild hogs here. Shot it and leave it for the buzzards.
Feral hogs are a problem, no doubt, and should be removed due to the damage they cause for farmers/ranchers. However, I do have a slight problem with presenting this as the “Great White Hunter Prevails” when shooting over bait. And I agree with those FReepers noting that this is no monster hog. I’ve seen larger boars on a domestic hog farm I worked on as a teenager in the 70s.
