Mods, this is such a vanity! Please move or remove as you see fit, if necessary. Could use some moving to Florida advice. Retiring in a few years from the DC, Maryland area. Have looked at Ocala because of the cool 55+ communities there, but the crime rate is scary. Also looking at Lake Mary and surrounding area. Costs are a lot less than in Maryland, and I admit to being a pathetic Disney junky. Advice, Floridians?
I just retired to SW Florida to Cape Coral which us near Ft. Myers. I’m from the Jersey Shore area and wanted to live near the coasy. Some beautiful v geaches, great fishing down here. Although the heat is more oppressive than I imagined it would be.
Stay away from Miami, Ft lauderdal and Boca Raton. South Florida is an animal pit although the home of the Tea party south Florida is a horrible place to live. I personally like the West coast. Id suggest spend ass much time here on vacation before moving...use you own judgement.
I live in a 55+ community part time and the rest of the time I spend in Colombia SA. Ive found if you hang out with old folks you get old...just my opinion
Agree Juniper is nice...but South Florida should be bombed....LOL
Yes, I’ve heard the heat and humidity are oppressive, which is why I was curious how it compares to DC or the Eastern Shore of Maryland. DC’s humidity is really bad a lot of the time.
Punta Gorda is a greeat little town...great boating. Friendly and not 3rd world like Ft lauderdal or Mialmi
Naples West coast great beaches quiet
Imagine the worst heat wave in D.C. Now imagine it lasting for about 4 months straight.
I’ll vouch for Ormond Beach as well. I live in gainesville, and like every one has been saying, inland is hot hot hot and more mosquitos. It is a nice still slightly underdeveloped beach community, close to Halifax medical center in Daytona (where they treat nascar drivers, and more importantly where my daughter was born), and sleepier than its cousin city to the south, Daytona Beach. Only and hour, hour and half from Disney via I4. Don’t base your decisions on hurricanes, my wife lived inland in Orlando, and her house was the crossing point for Charlie and two other hurricanes that year. They are gonna go where they go.
Yikes!
LOL! I will steer clear!
Just S of Jupiter is Juno Beach. To the N is Tequesta. You might want to check them out too.
Read an article a while back stating that The Villages is the STD capitol of the USA. Go figure. Us old folks don’t have anything better to do and don’t care. :)
“wondering if the heat and humidity are any worse than DC”
Consider the fact that there are no palm trees in Washington DC.
Good point.
Polo Park - Davenport
At intersection of 192 and 27.
Close to Disney but not too close.
Places like Naples in season are crazy crowded.
Screw Florida. Come to North Carolina. :-)
Cocoa Beach and Merritt Island are nice. 45 min. to Disney, but right along the coast. Close to Cape Kennedy and the rocket launches and beautiful beaches.
My fav is Cocoa Beach—housing on MI is not to bad in cost.
Good luck.
I stand undoubtedly corrected, you have a valid point sir.
The Syphliges...Florida’s dirtiest HOmetown...
