Donald Trump Is No Ronald Reagan

Peggy Noonan, ex-speech writer for Ronald Reagan, argues that you can't equate Donald Trump with Ronald Reagan. Here are a few excerpts from the column followed by my commentary:
- Look, Mr. Trump is not Ronald Reagan. Reagan served two full terms as the governor of a state so vast that if it were a country it would have been one of the important economies in the world. He was a union president who served seven terms during the most fraught time in Hollywoods history and emerged respected by all sides. He was no novice.
- Trump supporters should be able to make an affirmative case for their candidate without diminishing Reagan or anyone else. You shouldnt cut down a man you know was great to make him fit your candidates size. It is poor political etiquette. Its also historical parallelism gone mad. Mr. Trump isnt Reagan, and he isnt Andrew Jackson either. Hes Mr. Trump.
- Donald Trump needs serious, substantive people to help with his campaign and advise him in foreign and domestic policy. But some will not join him because they dont want to get Trump cooties. They dont want the stigma of working with him.
- Maybe if Trump wants to be compared to Reagan he should act more like him.

I believe the globalists and cheap labor express is today's equivalent of the Soviet Union, maybe not in terms of violence, but certainly in the destruction of the kind of life free and independent people hold dear.
maybe we should equate the globalist challenge to freeing the slaves.
any case, I like your challenge!

People that keep trying to put a Regan mask on every canidate since him, and these muppets that think they can bestow his crown on people as their own personal tool to make or not someone legitimate, are seriously starting to piss me off!
It is like these people are the ones that cheapen Reagan to nothing more than a character in a cartoon or a trope to be copied.
No Trump isn’t Reagan....so the hell what?!
Let him be his own man!

“When Trump almost single handed destroys a Soviet Union type entity without a single shoot fired.
Killed communism and freed literally millions of people from its evil grip”
Single handedly? Thatcher was involved, a lot. And I’m no Catholic, but Pope John Paul II did more to end communism than either of the other two. And all three arrived at the moment the USSR was imploding economically.

Precisely. Trump isn’t Reagan any more than I am. Nor does he pretend to be.
To: freedomjusticeruleoflaw
Exactly!
People act like it was all one big Reagan highlight reel from 1981-1989.
There were times where he wasn’t seen as popular, and times he did things people on the right did not like. It happens!
All that gets glossed over for just the best parts and then people pretend like that was the whole 8 years.

Excellent rebuttal points to Tokyo Peggy Noonan. I don't know what element it is that transformed a Peggy Noonan from Reagan speech writer to Admirer of Imam/Comrade 0Blah-Blah-to-Trump saboteur.
Trump's leadership and accomplishment bonafides are legit and dwarf that of any of his treacherous opponents.
Unlike The Gipper's world back in 1980, one could easily argue that Trump is in the situation currently to be THE ONLY person with the courage, leadership, love-of-country, ability and conviction to literally save our Republic.

“When Trump almost single handed destroys a Soviet Union type entity without a single shoot fired.”
And that entity MIGHT be the US government that has cone completely fascist and internationalist. That’s the entity I want him to destroy. And if he does, yes, he will even be greater than Reagan.
We could have existed in perpetuity with a hostile USSR. We wont last long with the government we have. That is an existential crisis.

After our Reagan experience we failed to carry that shining light on the hill and all the good the President had shown was completely disregarded. Peggy Noonan is nothing but an O'bama voter; believe the blond voted for this looney tune twice. She not only missed the Trump Train, she's now attempting to derail it. If President Reagan could get it done, so, too, can President Trump.

It's a powerful critique. To be praising Obama ruins her Reagan legacy. But as you say, it can get her invited to parties with the elite DC crowd.
Trump has his hands full reforming the DC crowd. He needs to be exceedingly clever. Can't wait to see how he gets the job done...

RR did play an important part in bringing down the USSR but it was NOT single handed nor nowhere NEAR single handed.
RR could never have achieved it without the incredible spirit of Pope John Paul II and his appearance in the fields of Poland. That was the turning point.

I knew he was great and helped get him elected. I know Trump is great and am working to get him elected.
Trump is what we need now.

And he doesn’t have to be another Ronald Reagan.

None of ‘em are anybody until they get in there. Then they’re who they are. I.e., Ronald Reagan wasn’t Ronald Reagan until he became president.
