As president, Hillary Clinton would support the automatic granting of green cards, or permanent residency, to foreign students who earn advanced STEM degrees in the U.S.
Clinton, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, said she wants the U.S. to "staple" green cards to the diplomas of non-citizens who earn master's or Ph.D. degrees in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering or math) "from accredited institutions."(continued)

We all know the 2 things she should staple together
And an EBT card right under it for when they can’t find any jobs.
I know what I’d like to staple to her forehead
Nah. She's talking about immigrants. They always find jobs...
Why use staples? A framing nailer would get the job done right.
Many politicians need the US Constitution stapled to their foreheads.
Your right, they’ll fold them into the visa program.
Many politicians need...(fill in the blank).
Or you know, you could just let the salaries rise to the degree where Americans WOULD do the jobs....
But, while she’s proposing this, there’s a serious move afoot to add an A to STEM and dilute the concept.
The A stands for ART
No really.
What a wonderful idea. Make sure those STEM jobs US citizens were assured would be there for them go to non-citizens.
Truth be told, I think Trump has talked about the same. A rational immigration policy would trade the millions of illegals, anchor babies, chain migrants, Muslim refugees, etc., etc, for a few thousand legitimate STEM graduates.
interestingly enough a green card is NOT permanent residency....I’m not even sure that that category exists. You either become a citizen or you are in this country for a limited time. The Time length can be renewed depending on circumstances (i.e. IF you are married to a US citizen) but it is not (or at least didn’t used to be) a permanent condition
Wrong....permanent resident alien status was granted to displaced persons uprooted in WWII from countries occupied by the Soviet Union. The DPs and US governments hopes were that they would return to homelands. Most became US citizens as soon as they qualified. Some, especially the older folks, felt they were in exhile and continued with the permanent resident status til death.
Permanent resident alien status is still being granted, though I don’t know the current requirements.
I just went and looked it up....you are correct that LPR must renewed every 10 years.
In the past I knew folks who had to leave the country and then come back. I also knew they couldn’t leave too often or else their green cards would be pulled. So I don’t know. It seems that many rules have changed over time
After looking it up, it seems they don’t want to say when this permanency of the green card occurred (not even the world war two reference , talking the government not wanting to say).....apparently you have to renew every ten years. Oddly enough in order to have one you either have to have a job that requires a green card and a company is willing to vouch for you, you have to claim asylum, or you have to have a sponsor.
Pretty sure depending on who you are that isn’t the set of requirements today
Why staple green cards they can JUST STAY, what the HELL is stopping them”..............NOTHING!!!!!!
