Congress passed a proposal on Thursday that essentially bans Confederate flags from national cemeteries. With a 265-159 vote, the proposal makes it illegal to display the Confederate flag in Department of Veteran Affairs cemeteries even on individual grave sites that honor soldiers who fought for the Confederacy, except on Memorial Day and Confederate Memorial Day.
Introduced by Rep. Jared Huffman (D) of California, the proposal received support from 84 Republicans and all but two Democrats. Rep. Sanford Bishop (D) of Georgia, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, voted against the amendment, while Representative Betty McCollum (D) of Minnesota voted "present."
Huffman's proposal was added as an amendment to the Veteran Affairs spending bill, and it remains uncertain whether it will become law....

It was John Adams who said “We have won us a country, if we can keep it’’.
And it was Ben Franklin who said
“A republic, if you can keep it.”
Lincoln—going once; Wilson—going twice; FDR—GONE.
It’s all over but the shouting. While I hope that she can be saved, I can’t see a way out. Enjoy the unity while it lasts if it suits you.
There may have been terms in the contracts when cemeteries were transferred to the feds that require these traditions continue. They would supersede this law.
SCV should look into that.
This was an incredibly small and crude thing to do.
Probably one of the greatest scenes from any movie.

RE Lee is still the most beloved general in American history, no matter what the social engineers write. Whether you would have fought for the Union or the CSA, you have to admire the professionalism and ability of the ANV.
I don’t hold out much hope for America. If Trump is elected we may escape our fate— for a while. But I don’t expect that my grandchildren will live in an America that we once knew.
The country is being destroyed piece by piece and this is what they have time to vote for
Disgusting
SOMEONE POST A LIST OF THE OFFENDING RINOs............
The movie scene reminds me of John Paul II and World Youth Day.
Hey, we’re just like ISIS...if you destroy historical markers, then they were never there in the first place...PATHETIC!!....The confederacy is part of our history and should never be destroyed....that is sick liberal nonsense.
“I wonder if the day is coming when nobody will be allowed to have any southern pride any more.”
Some would say that day is already here, but at least in my Texas town, youngsters still fly the confederate flag on their pickups.
“I would be interested to know why a black congressman was against it.”
Some of us black folks had ancestors who fought for the Confederacy. Might be his reason, or he could even be one of those rare black folks who has real Southern pride.
We are on the same page. It would be nice if he spoke out on it (he likely has, at least in his district)
“The Confederate flag is a treason. Brave men, including ancestors of mine fought to put that flag in the ground.”
Some of us have ancestors who fought on both sides of that conflict. I do.
My GGG grandfather, George Bibb Crittenden, fought for the CSA, while his brother, Leonidas Crittenden, fought for the USA.
And those are only two. I have more.
Are you asking me to renounce my forebear?
The Confederate flag is not treason. Confederates were not traitors. Only those who owe allegiance to the US can commit treason. Once the Southern states seceded, their people no longer owes allegiance to the USA. The Confederacy was not form until AFTER the first states seceded. Those who were later admitted to the Confederacy also seceded first.
They were enemies of the USA, not traitors to it.
They weren’t trying to DIVIDE the nation. They were trying to LEAVE it and create their own.
On Germany’s Veterans Day (or Memorial day) Germans officers visit the U.S. military cemeteries around the tidewater region of Virginia and hold memorial services at the graves of German U boat sailors whose bodies washed ashore and POWs that died in American military hospitals.
I would say defiance is in order
I think this whole slavery thing is a made up myth.
Another POS comparing the Confederacy to Japan or Germany in WWII. Those that do this are on the wrong site, they should go to the DU where they belong.
