SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A German shepherd fell out her owner's truck and stayed five weeks on the highway median near Sacramento for the owner to return.
Officers received calls every day about the animal, but they weren't able to find her for over a month.
Last Saturday, authorities were finally able catch the dog, who has since been nicknamed "Freeway Frida."
I’ve never heard anyone say”I wish I’d never gotten a Border Collie.”
Here’s another great story.

Me neither. But just was thinking alternative of having a BelMel. I’m more thinking I want a BC just like the girl I lost. Even down to the one blue eye she had. She knew the difference between the sound of my car keys and the sound of my aircraft keys and knew which way to head.
So your dog went flying with you?Talk about living large!
Oh yeah. She’d be in back and have her paws over the right seat watching as I started the engines. She’d bark like crazy and as I’d be taxiing the plane out she’d be looking around. Soon as I took off she’d drop back, lay down and go to sleep. When around friends and I tell them she flies with me I’d say “Clear” (as in clear prop) and she’d go into a barking fit thinking we’re going flying. She’d run circles around the plane while I was pre-flighting and couldn’t wait to climb aboard. I miss her terribly.
I have a Belgian Sheepdog sleeping against me as I type. Also have a 1 YO German Shepherd. In the past I had 1 Belgian Tervuren and 1 other Belgian Sheepdog. They are great dogs.
It’s going to be a hard decision as to which I want to get.
I understand that.
She knew she was loved. When you get to The Pearly Gates, she will be there waiting for you, so you both can walk in together. As far as your next furry family member, be patient and have faith. He/she will be directed to you when you are ready.
I hope and pray it will be like that.
Back during Katrina I was bombarded with coverage showing all the pain and devastation. It bothered me so bad I gave large sums of money to animal rescue (not a dime to the people).
The loss never gets any easier; lost Whitey in 1975, lost Runt in 1985, lost Rolly in 1998, Lost Pearl in 2003, lost Blondie in 2006, just lost old Jack this last December.
Honey Bunny probably only has about another 2 or 3 years ( they will be good years).
Next will most likely will be Penny, then probably George , then Sophie , then Billy.
I need to stop going to the pound; first they steal your heart, then they break it.
Getting to old now to start another family.
If there ain’t no dogs in Heaven, I ain’t goin!
She is beautiful and looks so sweet. Why would anyone do that to her? Many people would love to adopt her.
I now have 2 German Shepherds. One is mixed but I have always had labs before and was really surprised on the difference of GSD and labs. I love both breeds but GSD are special.
“My dogs are NOT PETS; they are FAMILY.”
I couldn’t agree more. I have nothing but utter contempt for the selfish monsters who abandon their loyal pets.
That’s a lot of grief to have gone through. Not sure I could have done that. She was my first dog.
I have a Great Dane. One of the most loving, friendly, impressive dogs I’ve ever had. When I had my will prepared, I made a huge effort to make sure my companion animals wpuld be cared for after I died.
Belgian Malinois are a very high energy breed not at all suitable for lounging around. Think of a Superman version of a German Shepherd, they literally fly through the air. They have a strong prey drive and make good military and police dogs. Not recommended for most people.

Pelham is right.
Choose another breed.
They are serious, extremely sharp working dogs, not couch potatoes.
Lots end up in rescues [or worse] when their new owner realizes what they bought.
