See, a uniform is supposed to be uniform. It is supposed to convey the idea that all those who wear it are engaged in a common enterprise that is greater than their individual proclivities. To allow Muslim cadets wear hijabs would be to deny the very nature and purpose of the uniform itself, and to allow an expression of the assertion that the cadet’s allegiance to Islam is greater than her allegiance to the Citadel or the U.S. military, which is doubtless true, but not something that the Citadel or the U.S. military ought to be in the business of encouraging.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — An American Muslim student admitted to the Class of 2020 Corps of Cadets at The Citadel will not be allowed to wear a religious headscarf with the military college’s standard uniform.
In a statement released by Citadel President Lt. Gen. John Rosa, the decision to reject the request came from an “essential” need to standardize the appearance of the cadets regardless of their religious requirements.
“This process reflects an initial relinquishing of self during which cadets learn the value of teamwork to function as a single unit. Upon graduation, The Citadel’s graduates are prepared to enter a life committed to principled leadership in military service and civilian careers,” Rosa said in the statement.
Rosa says while the request was rejected, religious beliefs are respected at The Citadel and freshman cadets meet with a number of faith-based organizations from the community. The school also offers rides to and from places of worship and accommodates dietary and prayer requirements.
“The diversity of religions and cultural backgrounds represented in the Corps enriches the overall cadet experience and better prepares graduates to become principled leaders in all walks of life, underpinned by The Citadel’s core values of honor, duty and respect,” Rosa said.
A spokesman for the family of a newly-accepted Muslim student at the Citadel says the prospective cadet is disappointed that the school has rejected her request to wear a head covering as part of her uniform.
Ibrahim Hooper with the [Hamas-linked] Council on American-Islamic Relations in Washington said he spoke with the family Tuesday morning after Citadel officials called to tell the woman she could not wear a hijab. Hooper said the woman will not attend the Charleston school this fall unless there is a change. He also said the family is considering legal options.
“We believe the desire to maintain an outdated ‘tradition,’ which was the same argument used to initially deny admittance to African-Americans and women, does not justify violating a student’s constitutional rights. Our nation’s military currently accommodates religious attire in the form of headscarves, beards and turbans. The Citadel should offer the same accommodations,” said [Hamas-linked] Council on American-Islamic Relations Senior Staff Attorney William Burgess. “No student should be forced to choose between her faith and an education that can facilitate future service to her nation.”…

I predicted this several days ago - watch the coordination between CAIR and the DOJ over this manufactured Hijab case at the Citadel. It is a planned political crisis.
If she wants to be in the military and rear the hijab, she can join a Muslim Army. Except, they won’t let her join.
The hijab is not mandated by Islam. It is just a mandate of woman oppressive Muslim men.
And it isn’t just a “tradition.” It’s there for a very specific reason.
If they can allow Sikh turban, they can’t make excuse for Hijab.

The cognitive dissonance of the left is astounding. If I suggested a breastfeeding mother cover up, I’d be pilloried for attacking her by the left. However, when a Muslim woman is forced, under threat of a beating or death to wrap up like she is in Antarctica, they support it in droves. The same is true with their love of Muslims and LGBTQs.
HUGE lack of respect on her part and anyone else who is disappointed by this refusal for the citadel to stand by it’s uniform.
They already over accommodate in so many other areas as mentioned in article.
Reminds me of recent shopping trip, in produce section as woman and teen/20 yr old son were squeezing mangos and tossing them back on pile. When I suggested they not damage the fruit she commented they were too hard it would not damage them. I told her until you buy it, it’s not yours it’s the stores and you should respect that and handle the fruit accordingly. Others have to come after you and don’t want to get their fruit home and realize a day or two later it’s damaged.
People who can’t see the aspect of respect in each situation, I have no use for.
But this romance is in reality only a one-way affair -- Leftists enamored with Muslims and Islam.

What CAIR wants is “onward Muslim soldiers,” in the US.

No! Right now CAIR is playing chicken with The Citadel but if the school stands firm, CAIR will back away faster than cats covering up s***.
CAIR’s not stupid; they won’t advance Custer-style into overwhelming hostility to their agenda. And discovery in a civil suit will open them up like a can of sardines, like where does all their money come from.
Remember the Ground Zero Mosque, with CAIR & Nanny Bloomberg growling, “Back off, America! This is a New York affair.”? Following mass protests by us “infidels”, the skyscraper mega mosque was quietly abandoned.
CAIR will issue a statement: “This poor little doe-eyed hijabi Muslimah is a victim of rampant Islamophobia at The Citadel. We will continue to strive to change this racist bigoted institution. The struggle has just begun.”
We still don’t know her name & photo. BTW, I’m a Citadel alumnus and we lit a fire under the president’s @zz when brave Cadet Nick Pinelli spilled the beans about this sordid attempt at Muslim PC.
I certainly hope you’re right, but with the muslim-loving Depatment of Just-Us, I envision problems for the Citadel.
The Citadel is a state college, not a Federal one. thank goodness.

The Citadel never made an exception for the yarmulke, and no Jew was ever whiny enough to demand an exception or to cry to their favorite terrorist organization over having to follow the rules. If Jews and Christians have to follow the rules, even privileged Muslims should be held to the same standard.

Why must we be the ones to change our lifestyle to meet the expectations of uninvited foreigners? If they don’t wish to assimilate into our cultural society perhaps they should just change their travel plans and go back where they came from.
