Hi, Folks! Please forgive the vanity, but I'm doing a "bucket list-type" trip in a couple of weeks to the 100th running of the Indy 500 on May 29. Looking forward to it,obviously!
I'm hoping knowledgeable Freepers might have some advice re: weather (seems fine, usually, on TV), mosquitoes, places to go - people to do, etc. Indy museum is on the agenda, of course.
I guess sun block will be in order but I'm particularly worried about skeeters 'cause they seem to come from miles around to feast on my flesh. My wife loves it that they leave her alone...
Anyway, any advice would be much appreciated and thank you in advance. If any of you are coming to Calgary I'll be happy to return the service.
cheers, Jim
Hearing protection.
Wow, good for you. Have fun. Indianapolis was the first place I ever saw fireflies and I loved the warm summer nights.
Hope you have fun. If you can stay in the shade that would be good and of course have a lot of water handy.
FREE THE INDIANAPOLIS 500!!
An Animal House quote comes to mind:
Bluto: My advice to you is to start drinking heavily.
Otter: Better listen to him, Flounder. Hes pre-med.
And have fun!
Go back in time 40 years and you’ll see a good race.
GPS to negotiate the freeways.;-) I frequently get lost driving through Indianapolis. GPS saved me the last two times.
i was there last year- defied all expectations and I wanted to attend the 500 since i was a little kid (took me 44 years to get there!!)....as i type this I am listening to the radio broadcast of the 1982 race (tells you the type of fan i am)...
this years 500 is the 100th anniversary and is sold out (I’m having major leg surgery and I can’t go)...
1) try and attend Carb day on Friday or at least go to the track on Saturday and explore...
2) the Museum is a must...
3) get there REALLY early on Sunday- try and get there no later than 8AM. If you are driving the traffic will be insane...
where are you staying?? where are you sitting? when are you getting into Indy??
Definitely don’t miss out on Carb day at the track - it is the Friday before the race. It’s a lot of fun and this year the band Journey will be playing. There will also be an Indy Lights race that day and the pit stop competition. I have not missed an Indy 500 since 1973.
4) go to the IMS website and rent the headphones so you can listen to the teams radio broadcast and the IMS broadcast..
BS- the last two 500’s were as good as it gets...
were you at the ‘73 500?
There are so many great men in this race. On a personal level they are awesome guys, but I'll never forget the one winner who rejected the traditional sip of milk. That REALLY ticked me off!
Just QUAKER STATE have WALMART fun MOBIL 1 and remember it’s all CRACKER BARREL about JOHN PLAYER SPECIAL talent, SHELL dedication, TARGET and GOODYEAR sportsmanship CASTROL.
Don’t park your car under the GoodYear blimp !
Infield is insanity. Best seat vary depending on your interests. We loved to sit behind the pits
Thrilling event. Went there in High School. Lots of bare boobs.
Emerson Fittapladi...drank orange juice...
Advice? Turn it back into an American car race.
I miss the variety of cars. Now they’re nearly identical. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll watch it and enjoy it but I miss the old days when the lineups were so much more interesting.
