Starbucks is opening its first cafe in Ferguson, Missouri. It is contracting with local and minority firms. It is teaming up with a local non-profit.
Starbucks certainly has the best of intentions.
What the actual results will be will up to the people who live in the community.
Will they treat this Starbucks the same way that people in most neighborhoods treat their local Starbucks?
Or, will they smash the windows, loot it, and burn it down?
Only time will tell.
As the number of people drinking coffee in our household has increased, I’ve been buying cheaper and cheaper coffee! Now it’s “Great Value Colombian,” in the biggest available tin.
Will it have a drive-by window?
That's funny right there.
“he wanted to give back to the community.”
I hate that phrase. Was there something that he illegitimatly took from the “community”? It’s another one of those guilt laden concept that ends up to no good.
No. He was an immigrant who did well. Made a fortune. Had a genuine concern to help those in need.
While no one can be "certain" of their intentions, you can be "certain" that their solution is the the result of going through life with blinders on.
That girl is sure gonna be busy writin some funky names on the cups. Lotsa fun to be had here on cup names in that situation for those so inclined!

And then if somebody misspells one of those funky names, we will see the media push that story, as someone being racist or culturally insensitive.
About 10 years ago Hubby’s daughter from a previous marriage, and her hubby, showed up (while my hubby was at work) to ask me for $100 because they couldn’t pay their PG&E Bill. They both had huge lattes or something in their hands from Starbucks. I poured me a cup of coffee from my coffee cup and proceeded to tell them that the reason I might have $100 is because I drink coffee at home at around 3 cents a cup and that they might want to try it before they go begging for money.
They didn’t get the $100.
Well, there goes the neighborhood...
LOL - good lesson.
