It's hard to believe that today is the 5 year anniversary of the Super Tornado Outbreak that devastated the South, particularly Alabama. Remembering the 238 people killed in Alabama and the victims in other states.
Thank you for that reminder. I hope we don’t see another tornado season like it.
I’ll never forget that day or the night I spent trying to get in touch with the friends I have there. Fortunately all mine were safe.
And also went back and watched this today to remember how powerful that tornado was.

That video was shot from University Mall parking lot by the way.
Sweet Jesus, that is a massive tornado! That guy in the car got way too close :O
For all you tornado chasers out there, came across this video a few weeks ago of an old guy who caught one, right in the face.
Illinois tornado 2015, killed his neighbors then came for him. Clem lived somehow.
It doesn’t get any scarier than this.

Incredible, what devastation and unfortunate loss of life :-(
41 dead across Tuscaloosa county alone. 200+ dead across the whole path of multiple tornadoes that day + night that came from the same storm.
Unreal video. You see everything just get leveled...then black and the most immersive sound you’ll ever hear. That is really incredible that he survived it.
My Grandma was one of the 330 that died in the April 3-4, 1974 Super Outbreak.
148 twisters across 13 states from Alabama to Michigan.
That sound as it approaches, it just like a giant buzz saw getting closer and closer, and then total oblivion.
I can’t believe he lived either. It was not Clem’s time.
I will never forget that night. There was no place to go.
I remember that night as well.
“I will never forget that night. There was no place to go.”
We were in our basement without any electricity, listening to the radio. I can still hear the constant EAS beeps, indicating another tornado warning.
I hope and pray that no super outbreaks ever happen again. My hometown of Guin, Alabama was decimated in the outbreak of April 3, 1974.
Prayers to those who lost loved ones. That night was an absolute nightmare.
Unbelievable day that was.
My condolences to you and your family for your loss.
My hometown of Guin, Alabama was almost wiped off the map that night. The Xenia tornado gets more attention because it’s a bigger town but the Guin tornado was just as strong, maybe even stronger.
The Guin tornado was rated an F-5 but an official at the NWS stated that it could have been rated an F-6, if there were such a thing as an F-6.
I was only 3 at the time but I have some faint memories of that time. To this day, I am still scared of sudden loud noises. I know that phobia came from that awful night and the horrible noise. There were people screaming for help all over town after it was over.
I hope another outbreak never happens.
I have watched that video several times. Still sends chills up my spine.
Wow. He’s lucky to be alive.
“Unbelievable day that was.”
Definitely, Hope it never happens again, anywhere.
Thanks for your post. I wanted to remember the lives lost and the families who are still grieving. Unfortunately, it didn’t receive as much press coverage because of the Royal Wedding.
“I hope we don’t see another tornado season like it” I couldn’t agree more.
My daughter is a freshman at Bama. Lots of stories on facebook about the outbreak. It’s hard to imagine the damage.
