Ted Cruz, a breath of fresh air in Upstate!
The Albany Times Union Joy In These Days Blog ^ | April 8, 2016 | Liz Lemery Joy

Posted on 04/08/2016 12:06:50 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Dear Readers,

I had the opportunity to listen to Ted Cruz yesterday. As a Christian voter and lifelong Upstate New Yorker I value the things he had to say. He was a breath of fresh air to our area! A welcome contrast to the typical pompous, political windbags like, Gov. Cuomo, Kirsten Gillibrand, Chuck Schumer, Paul Tonko- and the Times Union Newspaper- (which absolutely stumps for all of them on a regular basis).

I love New York… I was born and raised here. All my relatives are from here, and post active-duty military service, my husband and I returned to raise our children here. While he was serving, we lived all over the country. Of all the places we lived, it was hard to compare to the beauty of the Catskills and Adirondacks. We have so many stunning rivers, lakes, and countless choices of hiking, swimming and skiing…

Yet, so many wonderful, hardworking New York natives have fled our state. Why? Because of corrupt, bullying dictator politics, over regulation, oppressive taxes, and zero job growth! So it was refreshing to have a level headed candidate, who actually respects the Constitution, come and address voters in our area. People in upstate are hurting economically and the power hungry Albany machine has done nothing to help.

Ted Cruz is morally grounded and reveres God. One of the things that is of utmost importance to the Christian voter is that he values protecting innocent life. Again, unlike New York blowhards-(Gov. Cuomo, Kirsten Gillibrand, Chuck Schumer, and Paul Tonko) Ted Cruz is opposed to abortion. He actually takes to heart and respects that God is the creator of life…all life!

While our own ‘Dictator in Chief’ (Andrew Cuomo) wastes his time, and our money, making ridiculous travel bans to Mississippi and North Carolina, and has repeatedly told fellow conservative New Yorkers we aren’t welcome here…. Ted Cruz focuses on smaller Government, tax alleviation, and job creation- something conservatives have been longing to hear from a serious candidate. Conservatives understand that in order to see any economy thrive we need to stop over-regulation and decrease the taxes.

After 8 years of Obama and his calamitous regime, we need new, fresh leadership. Hillary Clinton doesn’t honor life. She is pro third trimester abortion up until the time of birth. She also abandoned our servicemen in Benghazi. Bernie Sanders supports third trimester abortion as well, and wants to increase our taxes even more…

How a person values other people’s lives absolutely determines how they will govern in office. Why? Because how they regard the worth of another human life, determines where their moral compass is and how they will carry out everything they do in political office…If a leader doesn’t value life, they will also disregard and be callous to other matters of governing and legislating that require principle and virtue.

We need a President of the United States that truly honors and reveres life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I believe Ted Cruz may be that person.

Cruz will probably do very well, outside of NYC, where there aren’t many Republicans anyway.

I believe that is his whole point.

Trump winning 100% of the delegates in NY pretty much mathematically ends the Cruz campaign (not quite, but for all intents and purposes) in terms of having any path himself of getting over the 1237 number.

I am a Cruz supporter...but I do not want the convention to turn into a contentious fiascos.

If Cruz reaches a point where he is mathematically eliminated, I hope he throws in with Trump to unite the party.

See: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3410747/posts

At that point, only he will be able to do that definitively.

All the barbs and attacks against one another aside...their actual, positions statements are very close to one another...and the GOPe hates them both.

It’s nice to hear some sane New Yorkers, that can think for themselves.

Listening to some moron crying ‘Cruz hates NY’ BS will only sway the most feeble minded.

They claimed it and it is all over the place including the links. Do your own Google or Yahoo. Play the audio links.

They are nutters.
Jesus is the only face of God.
That a Christian would utter such words is blasphemy.

Deal with it.

This is the equivalent of a “letter to the editor” by a dedicated Cruz fan. IF we all start posting this crap it won’t be pretty.

Ted needs to walk that comment back for his wife and their followers.
It makes him sound like a whack job with a messiah complex and a cupboard full of nutter Prozac followers.

Six months ago did you think Ted “A Time For Truth” Cruz would be in bed frantically fornicating with the entire elitist republican establishment?

I sure didn’t. I’d like a refund on the book.

If you have not figured it out by now, it is beyond your capability.

Yeah, I read it and saw right through it. You should know by now that there are not too many people on Planet Earth that are more knowledgeable about statistics than I. And that means I don’t respect Trump’s favorable polls either but they are picking up a signal, but none of it is statistically valid.

The first thing I noticed about your link to a ‘poll’ was that the website was directed to ‘Arkansas Matters’. Arkansas? And the poll was not even cited anywhere. Looking closely it appears to be a CNN poll but there is no citation and no link to it anywhere; at least my tired worn eyes did not see it.

The next thing I noticed was “likely republican voters”. Those data come off of voter rolls showing who voted last time. They also come off of asking a series of questions about the likelihood of voting next primary or election, etc.

‘Likely Voter’ was a useful indicator 20 years ago. And since it has descended into a nothing-indicator.

Today, landlines are used by fewer and fewer people. Those that still use them are retirees, elderly, welfare queens (but Obamaphones are making a dent there), and ‘others’ who find themselves sitting at home these days more than they would like to.

A large portion of the ‘Others’ is coming from nearly 100 million out-of-work Americans that are sitting home. This is why Trump ‘consistently’ leads in the polls because the polls are at least managing to pickup that signal although not reliably.

Note pollsters, and the statisticians behind them, are the lowest of the low when it comes to analysts. To real scientists, a political pollster is an embarrassment to science. Rejects and losers usually find a job in such venues. The reason for this is because every last political poll, no matter how touted as ‘respected’, is invalid on its face.

In an MSA of 1,000,000 voters, only about 0.01% (0.0001) will pickup and actually answer a poll. That would be 100 people. Pollsters will then depart from their scientifically prescribed sampling plans and start to use backup lists to get about 1000 respondents so that they can magically pin an MOE of +/-X % to make it look ... (shaking head) ‘respectable’. Kind of like a 3rd world military officer with 40 pounds of medals and decorations on his chest, political polls, all of them, are a farce.

The sampling plan execution is ruined in such settings. Census takers do a great job because it is backed by law. But there is no law that says a person must respond to a political poll, thank goodness.

Where signal is picked up is not in polls, it is in how many independents and dem crossovers show up. Trump commands those, Cruz does not.

Californian republicans, independents, and Reagan democrats are not so enamored with Cruz that they will turn out for him, and they detest Romney and Ryan. The turnout will not be driven by a fairly popular governor as it was in Wisconsin nor will the MoneyPACs of the Party of Romney be able to generate turnout like they did in Wisconsin. Because Californian republicans are a dispirited bunch and are angry with the national party.

A good portion of them will turn out for Donald Trump because he represents the truest outsider and that’s what they really want.

They are not going to listen to the same old same old from the national party. Cruz’ platitudes fall flat. His bible belching will not be received well. They simply don’t like him.

When Cruz discusses “New York Values” he’s obviously referring to the city. Up state is in a whole new universe.
