A virtually unknown Wisconsin businessman will attempt to be this years David Brat, the upstart who shocked the political world in 2014 and knocked off the sitting House majority leader in the Republican primary.
Paul Nehlen next week will formally kick off his campaign to unseat House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wisc. A onetime Ryan supporter, Nehlen said he became dismayed after his Congressman voted to give President Obama the ability to negotiate a massive trade pact with Pacific Rim countries. He said he grew more frustrated by Ryans vote for a budget that funds Obamas domestic priorities.
I arguably was Paul Ryans biggest supporter in this district, he told LifeZette, recalling that he bought copies of the congressmans book and gave them to friends. I pounded signs. I made phone calls. I got people out to vote for the things that Paul Ryan said were his top priority, he said. When the Trade Promotion Authority came out, the gloves came off. I was absolutely I just couldnt believe it. The level of betrayal was indescribable.
Beyond trade, Nehlen said his priorities would be enforcing immigration law and stopping Ryans cronyism and corruption, which he defines as doing the bidding of globalists in the Washington area who account for the bulk of the speakers campaign contributions, despite promises he made to people in the district.

He’s just another lying, phony DC politician out to fleece the people.
Voting out Eric Cantor didn’t teach them anything. They’re invincible, donchaknow!

They view themselves as the entitled elites and see us as the unwashed masses deserving of contempt.
How about 12 year term limits for congress and senate? After that they have to wait for a period of time (e.g., 4 years) before running again. Just a thought....
To me term limits are less of an issue if there is more accountability via shorter terms; if someone can win ten consecutive elections every three years, then I believe they must be representing their constituents well.
Everyone donate.
I will be donating this week.
We have donated to McCain’s opponent, Kelli Ward
What's this guy talking about? Ryan has always been very much a free trader.
Disagreeing with a position doesn't make it a betrayal.
IIRC Trumps’ first rally in Wisconsin was in Ryans’ congressional district. A warning shot across the bow? I think so. If Ryan opposes Trump, Trump might just campaign for Ryans’ primary opponent. Very astute of Trump to send that message.
Ryan’s never done a real productive day’s work in his life. He’s been the pretty baby of the metrosexual GOPe. His wife is an heiress, and politically connected. I loathe this ersatz aristocrat family more than I ever loathed the Clintons. I’d donate to Stalin if he ran against Ryan and the Princess.
Cutting retired pay for military annuitants while leaving NPR alone was enough for me to know he wasn’t a conservative in the sense I understand the term.
Primary Ryan!! Amen, let it happen!!
I never heard about the heiress angle. Hopefully Levin & Savage will emphasize this on their programs.
You have to amend the constitution to enact term limits. It was passed by the Gingrich congress, signed into law by Bill Clinton, and knocked down by the SCOTUS.
My proposal is to end and an all post-office benefits for elected officials, including esp. pensions. Let them have an unmatched 401K plan nothing more. I think that would serve well as defacto term limits and no amendment required.
Interesting proposal. But their “pensions” would then come entirely from serving well heeled special interests who can provided the best sinecures after they leave office (i.e., sitting on boards, being paid advisors, receiving contracts as paybacks, etc).
“if someone can win ten consecutive elections every three years, then I believe they must be representing their constituents well”

I get your point but the longer they are in the hallowed halls of congress the more tricks they learn and the power of incumbency becomes almost unbeatable. At some point serving the constituents morphs into deceiving them. And the old truism about absolute power corrupting absolutely is absolutely true.
When they first get to Washington its all about the people. But after just a couple of years it becomes all about them. That is the mindset that takes hold and leads them to compromise away any values they may once have held. Politics becomes a game instead of a mission.
If enough people in a district/state/country feel they aren’t represented, they’ll throw them out. If they represent their constituents well (enough at the cost of neighboring entities), they are doing their jobs.
“even at the cost of neighboring entities”
If enough people in a district/state/country feel they arent represented, theyll throw them out.

Theoretically that is true. However, as a practical matter, the party has an interest in throwing significant money and other resources behind incumbents. This money can change hearts and minds, and it does. That’s why politicians are on a constant hunt for money. Money often buys elections.
Yeah, that's how I felt during the Bush years.
