Political commentator Niger Innis, national spokesman for the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), told PJM a "superhero" Republican presidential nominee would be a combination of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Donald Trump.
Innis, who has endorsed Cruz, praised Trump for "never" giving into the media's narrative of issues such as illegal immigration.
"He never allows the media to determine the battlefield. He determines the battlefield. No pun intended here, but he calls a spade a spade and he's not afraid to do so and he does it consistently and that's the courage Republicans are going to have to have as we move forward into this election with Hillary," Innis, chairman of Tea Party Forward, said during an interview at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).
"If you could cobble together a political superhero for the conservative movement it would be the attitude and the tactics of Donald Trump and the ideological platform of Ted Cruz and Ted Cruz's stubbornness. If you could put all of the facets together you've got a new Ronald Reagan for this age," he said.
If Trump won the nomination, Innis said he would need to "bring in" someone like Cruz.
"Vice versa, if Ted gets the nomination he's going to have a little bit more leeway to do what he wants to do in terms of vice president and his cabinet because he is such a consequential conservative and people know he is not going to compromise," he said.
Innis praised Cruz for standing up for conservative principles and not compromising with the left. PJM asked Innis if those characteristics would prevent Cruz from making progress with Congress on entitlement reform and other issues as president.
NO CRUZ!!! TRUMP IS A HERO TONIGHT!!
I Agee with Niger!
With a enough of the smarmy Rubio charm, the distinguished education and accomplishments of Dr. Carson and the bumbling likability of !Yeb to seal the deal.
We thought it was a deep bench, I fear it’s a back bench.
Generation Landslide
Closed the gap between ‘em
Now we’re into fiction,
Who the hell would want to mix Cruz in with Trump? So Cruz can let me know how wonderful it is that China ships us all this cheap plastic trash? Screw that!
For years we conservatives have salivated over the possibility of a successful Cruz run...along comes Donald Trump. God bless him, good guy, brash, politically incorrect...what’s not to love? Unknown? Questionable donations? But he might be the best President ever (or the worst) We just don’t know.
I’m still a Cruz guy. Not trying to convince anyone...just proud of my choice. I hope you all as comfortable with your votes as I will be with mine. Ain’t life grand?
I used to think exactly like this, but recent events suggest that Cruz isn’t actually all that stubborn.
But I guess it's human nature to pick a side and then automatically turn the other side into evil incarnate.
No one could be a worse president than Obama has been. I was a Cruz guy, but I think Trump has the best chance of winning against the Democratic Commies.
Tedald Crump for president!!
If the partisans would try to get along, at least a little, it could be the best ticket ever.
Trump doesn’t need to be tainted with the “ideological platform of Ted Cruz”.
OK I’ll buy that. A Trump/Cruz ticket.
Cruz could learn a lot from Trump.
Such as last night, when Cruz was left without a denial when Trump reminded him what is the patently obvious result of higher priced imported goods which is what Trump believes will bring jobs back here. ... people will buy American ... which will create the demand for the factories and jobs to be brought back to the US.
If a Corola is 45% more costly than a Fusion, people will buy the Ford. After a few quarters of reduced profits ... the Japanese will come to the negotiating table.
Trump/Rubio would be much better.
I prefer Dorco Trubio or Marcold Rump.
Cancelling a rally is a smart thing to do under the circumstances; heroics were not required to make the decision. Let’s be real here.
It’s a shame that the supporters were denied their rally. It’s as much theirs as it was Trump’s.
All of the candidates and their supporters should be able to go to a rally without worrying about dangerous hordes; these protesters have just provided Trump with at least a weekend’s worth of free campaign publicity, so the joke is on the them. As a Cruz supporter, I can only laugh at the Democrat rabble-rousers for providing a Republican with such a grand return for their bad behavior!
Gog bless Ted Cruz. He is not to blame here. The element to blame is parasite communism that wants your house and your stuff. You better get prepared. DJT has flushed them out. See them?
