Romney lost to Obama R0mney didn't run against 0bama. He had one slimy attack after another against his opponents in the primary, then bent over for 0bama.

The plan is out in the open for anyone to see.
1) Ensure Trump doesnt haven enough delegates to claim nomination
2) Have a brokered convention
3) Nominate...Mitt Romney
Read #3 again Cruz and Rubio supporters. You are working to nominate Mitt Romney.
The fix is already in. They are so arrogant they are openly talking about it. Romney will be the nominee if there is a brokered convention.

Let the answer be swift and clear.

We might just be seeing the death of the Republican party. On one side you have the GOPe, comprised of the likes of Bush and Romney. That group also, for now, includes Rubio, who is not part of the GOPe but has been 'adopted' (for now) for their purposes. Then you have a second group that has the Conservatives/Evangelicals. This group includes (either I truth or by word) the likes of Cruz, Santorum, Huckabee and Carson, and currently the only person from this group at play is Cruz. Then you have a third group, a new group, that is comprised of 'others.' These others include conservatives, evangelicals, and Republicans who are generally tired of being used and abused by the GOPe (and GOP in general), and want an outside. In this group yoy have Trump, of course, and ironically Cruz and Carson are also in this group as well even though those two are also in the prior group. However, currently Trump is the only one who's really hitting it here.
Death of the party? Well, if the GOPe pulls a funny move (eg a brokered convention where Romney or Rubio ends up as the nominee), the Trump side will DEFINITELY not vote, and the Cruz side may also not participate. By the way, the Cruz side should not have any illusions that the GOPe would support Cruz - the party elite look at Cruz with hatred and disdain, it's just that Trump is their main focus for now.
If the Trump side wins the nomination, the GOPe will definitely continue attacking him rather than coming around him, with one even stating that they would support Hillary. The Cruz group would probably NOT attack Trump if Trump became the nominee, but a number of them might sit the election out. Question remains how many.
If Cruz wins the nomination then you'd see the GOPe not necessarily attack him the way they'd keep attacking Trump, but the GOPe would still not be supportive. Remember Cruz is not loved by them. As for Trump supporters, a number of them may sit out the election, with the question being how many.
Result - a party schism. As the three main groups continue to attack (nay, assault) each other, the bad blood continues to come closer to a boil. The party will basically become a lose connection 'coalition' that is similar to something from Europe, where there are coalitions rather than mega-parties.
The death of the GOP. Not GOPe, GOP.
