WEST COLUMBIA, S.C.-- A super PAC backing Ted Cruz is running robocalls and radio ads that remind voters Donald Trump supported removing the Confederate flag from South Carolina statehouse grounds. "Trump talks about our flag like it's a social disease," intones the spot, which is playing on about 30 radio stations in South Carolina, as well as a few in neighboring states. It includes clips of Trump saying, "Put it in the museum, let it go." "That's Donald Trump supporting Nikki Haley removing the battle flag from the Confederate memorial in Columbia," says the spot, which is paid for by Courageous Conservatives PAC and is part of a $25,000 ad buy. Rick Shaftan, a spokesman for the PAC, said that since "Donald Trump supporters are the most opposed to political correctness," it was a relevant point to make in the hours before the South Carolina primary, where most polls show Trump holding a substantial lead over Cruz. The Cruz campaign has disavowed the spot. "This is from someone not affiliated in any way with our campaign, and it is not something we condone," tweeted Brian Phillips, Cruz's rapid response director. Cruz last summer said he would leave the issue of whether the flag should come down -- which it eventually did in the wake of a shooting at an African American church -- to the people of South Carolina. But the Texas senator ignored reporters who on Friday asked whether he supported that outcome. "His position is the same, this was a decision for state leaders to make," Cruz spokeswoman Catherine Frazier said. State Sen. Lee Bright and state Rep. Bill Chumley, who were announced last spring as two of Cruz's state chairs here, were vocal opponents of bringing the flag down. "People like Donald Trump are always butting their noses into other people's business," the ad says, going on to add, "On Saturday, send Donald Trump and his New York values back to Manhattan. Ted Cruz for president. Let's take our country back. Now. Before it's too late."
Meh, this isn’t really “dirty”, but I do kind of think it’s stupid for a guy from another state to say that another guy from another state should stay out of yet ANOTHER state’s business.
“Ted Cruz up to dirty tricks again.....”
Yes. There he goes again telling the truth.
This Flag meant a lot to a lot of people...and this is another one of our Freedoms being taken away...
It doesn’t matter anymore what Cruz says or does, he’s done...you need to worry about Rubio now...
Trump will stay the course and stay strong...
In the past 100 years there have been 18 Presidents. Other than Reagan, who was the perfect conservative President in conservatives opinion?
Some would add Coolidge.
Okay, Reagan and Coolidge. Two out of 18 Presidents in 100 years. 10% of the Presidents in the last 100 years, roughly. That means conservatives are going to be disappointed by 90% of the Presidents elected.
So Cruz has probably a 10% chance of becomming president.
Telling the truth about Trump's position on the CBF is a dirty trick?
I find it the height of hypocrisy that people who support djt will say they love him because he’s a fighter and he will fight.A true Fighters fighter and he stuff and he’s aggressive and will fight, while at the same time believe that everyone should treat him with kid gloves if not due deference respect with possible bowing and scraping, the dichotomy is most interesting
Is it true and if so is the truth dirty ?
Unless Cruz has come out in favor of keeping the Confederate flag flying on the Confederate Memorial, this line of attack is rather meaningless.
I haven’t heard Cruz come out in favor of that, has anyone else?
If Cruz also favors the removal of the flag, the ad is only partially true (regarding Trump), but leaving out Cruz’s stand, is where the dirty trick comes in.
With friends like Cruz’s....
No one except Trump seems to understand that unless you win the general election, nothing that is said or promised now matters.
“Ted Cruz up to dirty tricks again.....”
It’s all he’s got. He can’t get elected on his flip flops on immigration (since he’s been in office!) or his looks.
Cruz’s fundraising schemes have reached a new level of YUK.
Yup. Teddy Milhous playing tic tac toe again. I guess he doesn’t plan on winning any states outside of the deep south.
It’ll be interesting to see how he spins things after today.
SRSLY?!
The problem isn’t with telling the truth. It’s the way Ted Cruz does it. If Donald Trump thinks something about someone he comes out and says it outright. He does not rely on robocalls, surrogates, fake voting fliers, or lying about candidates dropping out of a race. He has no pollsters telling him what to say or do and is not owned by any Corporate Donors or Lobbyists. He does not have a Super PAC and has never been in politics before. He built a business, created jobs, and left a legacy for his family to take over. Something no other candidate can say. Ted Cruz is a politician who has donors and a Super PAC. He has pollsters and surrogates who help him craft a message to get the most votes possible as opposed to just saying what he thinks. He has never created a job and doesn’t have a single accomplishment to his name. So yeah- Ted Cruz is up to his dirty tricks again. Trump 2016!
You’re being generous. I’d give Teddy about a one in 20 chance. Assuming a long series of unforced errors by all of his gop opponents, and the rats picking her thighness over Ho Chi Bernie, and he has a chance. That’s just a highly unlikely series of events.
Teddy has all the electability of Barry Goldwater, together with all the ethics and charm of Richard Nixon.
Perfectly stated.
The truth will set you free if its in a pretty package that you approve of. I do still find amazing Trump supporters seem to think everyone else is vile evil wrong and cruel if they say one word against Mr Trump but he may slander as He wills and then say he didn’t.
