Politics is a fast-paced and unpredictable game, and sometimes, unfortunate things happen. That's the best way I can describe what occurred on caucus night in Iowa when CNN implied that Ben Carson was dropping out of the Republican race, and the Cruz campaign swiftly alerted caucus-goers that they should consider voting for Ted Cruz instead.
Let's start from the beginning.
Shortly before the Iowa caucus was set to begin, CNN's Jake Tapper reported: ...

I have no problem with your posting articles, G3. My point is that the tainted election is fairly well established. Your candidate, though, is looking at South Carolina...and needs to. Not to tell you how to campaign, but this is a state-by-state primary process. The tainted election is yesterday's news.

Should the Cruz campaign HQ have forwarded the clarification from the Carson campaign to its staff? It really was not their job to clean up Carson's mess, but it still would have been the right thing to do. The fact that did not happen is why Ted apologized.I have not seen any detailed timelines on whether or when the Cruz campaign saw the clarification from the Carson campaign. The Cruz people forwarded a CNN report. This was in the midst of the caucus process, when everyone was running around in hair-on-fire mode. I am quite sure they had tv's showing the news reporting. I doubt they were sitting around monitoring twitter feeds from all the other campaigns. Unless Ben Carson picked up the phone and called Ted Cruz personally, or his campaign manager talked to the top Cruz person, there is no reason to assume the loop would be closed.

Did or did not Cruz’s people promulgate the story to their own benefit WITHOUT CONFIRMING that the story was factual?

How about a teeny tiny taste of what the dems will do to the Donald if he makes it to the general (just imagine all the stuff they could have put in there if they wanted to devote a little more time...they will turn him into a laughing stock in no time):
Your boy isn't going to be immune to being lampooned by the 'RATS either, here's a "teeny tiny taste" for you:
Now to we conservatives, being compared to the late Senator Joe McCarthy is a badge of honor, but to the general electorate?
Unfortunately, not so much.
Do a Google search on the terms "ted cruz" and "laughing stock", what you get back ain't gonna be pretty. And yes, a search on "donald trump" / "laughing stock" returns equally disturbing results.

Well Teddy better have that tongue oiled up for tonight’s debate. What are the odds Trump won’t call him out on dirty tricks? Its just too beautiful to pass up. :-)

What are the odds Carson won’t call him out? Somebody said Cruz better be wearing a big, sturdy belt buckle. Maybe not literally, but he’s going to need a honking big figurative belt buckle before Carson is done.

I’m on the same page. I just can’t take him seriously as a possible CIC. He’s amusing in very small doses, but that’s it for me.

I wonder if Trump really will pile on? Recall he said he was done with Iowa. If Carson is lit and attacks without mercy, Trump may just stand there letting it happen. It might be a winning tactic.

I hope they both do. I want to see Cruz make them look like the hypocrites they are... I suspect that is why Trump backed off so quickly -— he realized he has to share a stage with Cruz tonight.

Why would comparing Ted Cruz to a man who actually stood up and fought real communist (read: ENEMY) penetration and subversion of our government make him a laughingstock?

Remember when Ted Cruz won Iowa and Trump didn't? Which candidate supports single payer health care?

Who do you think you’re kidding? Everyone and their uncle have been releasing the “dirt” on Trump for the last six months! Just because some people wish to continue living in the pie in the sky fantasy offered by Cruz and even Rubio, doesn’t mean that world-wise voters will fall for their crap. Trump’s voters are solidly behind him. They don’t fly off or get siphoned off by some rumor or dirty politics. Trump is the ONLY choice. It is long past time that Americans put AMERICA FIRST. Vote Trump, the ONLY one not in the NWO basket.

Listen pitcher, the story broke on CNN—it wasn’t some rumor. Cruz has a campaign that gets news stories out to their field staff in REAL TIME. I don’t know about you, but if I was running a campaign right in the middle of the caucuses and a NEW STORY like that broke from CNN about one of my competitors who had zero chance of winning, and was going after the same voting block I desperately needed to win, you can bet I would get that information out to the front lines IMMEDIATELY.
