Why would comparing Ted Cruz to a man who actually stood up and fought real communist (read: ENEMY) penetration and subversion of our government make him a laughingstock?

Because unfortunately, the libtard media and their America-hating comrades turned the name of that great Senator from Wisconsin into a label that is associated with the worst perceived qualities of conservatism. You ask the average man on the street what he thinks of 'McCarthyism' and the response will generally be negative, thanks to the effective brainwashing of society by those who hated McCarthy for his brave stance and celebrated when he died.

I guarantee you this: If Senator Ted Cruz stood up and announced that he believed in what Senator Joe McCarthy stood for, and that 'McCarthyism' is (as Joe himself once said) "Americanism with it's sleeves rolled up", he would be savaged by nearly all media, and it would be damn near impossible to recover.

Even with McCarthy having been vindicated by the release of the former Soviet 'Venona' transcripts, if Cruz is successfuly compared to or linked to Joe McCarthy, it's all over for him.
