REALITY: I Personally Know a Guy Who Was Ripped-Off by Trump for a 7-figure Amount...

He stressed that Donald Trump was never to be trusted,
for the man operates utterly devoid of principle

What happened is the NY attorney I know -and his lawyer sister- had done business with Trump, and in fact had all but won a case for him that resulted in a substantial cash settlement, to which the attorneys where contractually entitled to their % cut once the lawsuit was done. In this particular circumstance, the fee was to be over a million dollars, and it wasn't the first time they had worked with The Donald.

So when it all fell their way, Trump suddenly overnight fires these attorneys who brought him to victory's doorway so he wouldn't have to pay them the
% fee rightfully due them... then he hired some schlubbs who worked for a low hourly wage to do the paperwork and wrap up the already in-the-bag case.

Ever the ruthless opportunist, Trump found a hole in the contract he did with my friend, that the deal allowed them to be fired -for zero cause- and paid an hourly pittance for their work up to that point... totally violating the spirit of the contract, what a scumbag. He offered no explanation, and afterwards would not return their calls. 'Art of the Deal' indeed~

I was told this story back in 2012, when starting to flirt with the idea of giving Trump a little support on my site. The (conservative, registered Republican) lawyer friend -a man I trust utterly- went on to tell me the above story, adding that Trump simply didn't have the principles to hold such a powerful position, and that it would probably be better for us all if he just stayed in the real estate business and screwed people over there.

You can now see this shocking lack of principle in Trump's disingenuous and dishonest attacks on Ted Cruz... seems my friend was right all along.

Trump obviously can't compete with Cruz on the issues- and he couldn't make that any more apparent than with his current deplorable behavior.

As a rule, quantum meruit is used where there is no contract. If there is a contract, the terms can be unreasonable and the contract upheld, because that’s what they agreed to. If they trusted Trump, and their contract left them exposed, that’s a mistake, but even good attorneys sometimes trust people they shouldn’t.

Peace,

SR

I see no name of an author for this hit piece, I find no names for the attorneys, I find no name for the case and I should believe any of this?

"He [Trump] would not be as successful as he is in business if he treated people the way you suggest."

I acknowledged that when I said "he might only have $8 billion instead of $10 billion". We're talking about a presidential candidate here, not a ruthless business man - the kind a lot of voters don't trust. I don't trust Trump. You don't have to be ruthless to be successful in business. Of the ones I know, the best businessmen aren't ruthless. I avoid the ones that are.

When you start playing in the big leagues, you better be ruthless or you will have everything taken from you.

A small business under say 20 million is one thing. When dealing with sharks in the hundreds of millions, or billions, you better have your shark proof suit on, if not, you will be stripped naked pretty damn quick.

I do think Cruz is preferable. Trump is a wildcard. I don’t think we will really know with him unless he gets into office. The establishment candidates are all known and all bad.

I understand the sentiment, but given what I have seen the establishment picks are far more dangerous because we know they are taking us to a very bad place for their own gain. Even worse, they have convinced themselves that they are doing right in selling the nation down the river.

Sounds like Trump fired some lawyers who don’t understand how contracts work and they’re butthurt that Trump does. Not very good lawyers after all.
==========================================Exactly.

The story mentions that the lawyers were working on a percentage basis.

That sounds like a contingency agreement.

I doubt Trump hires lawyers on that fee basis.

Further, contracts are enforceable whether in writing or verbal so long as the basics can be supported by something other than “he said, she said”.

Further, I doubt that Trump hires lawyers who are so incompetent that they can not collect their fees.

Most lawyers are pretty determined that you pay their bills.

I'm certain that Trump hires lawyers on a contingent fee basis for certain kinds of cases. He wants results and a contingent fee is the only way to assure that payment is made only if results are achieved.

Plus, I think I read earlier in the thread that it was a property tax assessment case. Those are cases where the lawyer is hired to challenge the tax assessment for a property. They are almost always handled as contingency cases. (I have been on both the owner and attorney sides of those cases.) Essentially, the owner promises the attorney a percentage (usually 1/3rd) of whatever property tax savings result from a successful reduction of the tax assessment for the property. These deals are nice from the owner's perspective because the owner takes no risk.

A possible scenario: Trump had a contingent fee contract with these lawyers for a tax assessment appeal case. The attorneys spent a lot of time working on it, but were not successful. They figure Trump is a rich guy so he ought to pay them for their time anyway. Trump says no because that was not their deal. There would be nothing unethical about this, and is exactly the kind of guy I would want as president.

He specialized in property assessment, and may not have been prepared for dealing with such a ruthless piece of garbage. But he's a multi millionaire with his own JET, multi houses, owns shopping strips... he's plenty successful

Wipe the stars from your eyes. You think he has earned every cent through earnest piety? He's a lawyer. There is no "not prepared" in doing a legal contract where your job is to spot the liabilities and risks for your client. Can he ignore them for himself and claim victim status?

Sounds like a shark fight to me, and the best man won. You only heard his side of the story.

Lol. If you think Trump got to be a billionaire without screwing a lot of people you are delusional. I could tell the entire story, give names, companies, dates and whatever you need to believe Trump is a corporate thug, but it wouldn’t matter and the folks who have been screwed by him could be in jeopardy.

Instead of calling me a liar, why don’t you take a minute and think maybe this is some information that could be accurate and there is reason to question Trump, it’s not as though he has been steadfast in his beliefs. But hey, he’s a nice guy as long as others are nice to him, he’s very rich and he’s going to make America great again........I think he then says something like, “just trust me.”

If you were not directly involved and know any details first hand, you know nothing at all as far as facts are concerned. All you know is what you heard from some one that may or may not know what he is talking about. Again, don’t let facts get in your way when telling your stories, it could ruin your fantasies and lead to a mental breakdown.

REALITY:
If this actually occurred then the lawyer that was stiffed went to court and sued Trump, because the facts were so indisputable, how could justice not be assured?

This is article is a piece of fiction.

Unless you can name names and provide the legal documents for you claims, we might as well respond that you are a child molester and some guy we know that we trust said so.

Your friend is rich and smart but he didn’t have the sense or the money to hire a contract lawyer? I’m not buying it.

I’m a Cruz supporter but these allegations don’t seem to reflect badly on Trump at all.

If someone made agreements with the democrats in congress and then cheated them like that instead of the other way around he would should have our votes. Then again he may just cheat us.

My sister’s neighbor has a cousin who got ripped off by Trump for $2.1 million. Trump wrote him a bad check for the purchase of a bridge somewhere. Unfortunately he lost the bounced check so he couldn’t sue. Since this neighbor’s cousin has some gay neighbors, I know for a fact that Trump rips off gay people on purpose.
