Does the Bible Advocate Jihad?

The word jihad means "striving" or "struggle." The word describes different types of struggles such as "jihad of the pen" (promotion of Islam), "jihad of the heart" (struggle against doubt), and jihad that involves violence to advance Islam. There is no Hebrew equivalent to the word jihad. The Hebrew word with the closest meaning is tsaba which refers to struggle, army and warfare.

The idea that the Bible advocates jihad is Islamic propaganda. It represents an attempt to blame the Bible for the very crimes committed daily by Islamic extremists. The Islamic writer, Khaula Rehman writes, "There are no verses in the Holy Quran to trigger and promote genocide, but there are in the Bible.... There are no verses in the Holy Quran to kill people for sexual misconduct but there are in the Bible."

The Islamic writer, Khaula Rehman is a liar

Qur’an (7:80-84) - “...For ye practice your lusts on men in preference to women: ye are indeed a people transgressing beyond bounds.... And we rained down on them a shower (of brimstone)” - An account that is borrowed from the Biblical story of Sodom. Muslim scholars through the centuries have interpreted the “rain of stones” on the town as meaning that homosexuals should be stoned, since no other reason is given for the people’s destruction. (The story is also repeated in suras 27 and 29).

Qur’an (7:81) - “Will ye commit abomination such as no creature ever did before you?” This verse is part of the previous text and it establishes that homosexuality as different from (and much worse than) adultery or other sexual sin. According to the Arabic grammar, homosexuality is called the worst sin, while references elsewhere describe other forms of non-marital sex as being “among great sins.”

Qur’an (26:165-166) - “Of all the creatures in the world, will ye approach males, “And leave those whom Allah has created for you to be your mates? Nay, ye are a people transgressing”

Unless you are a member of the extinct people from Canaan, you are safe from attack from Bible followers.

Question:

Does the Quran really contain dozens of verses promoting violence?

Summary Answer:

The Quran contains at least 109 verses that call Muslims to war with nonbelievers for the sake of Islamic rule. Some are quite graphic, with commands to chop off heads and fingers and kill infidels wherever they may be hiding. Muslims who do not join the fight are called ‘hypocrites’ and warned that Allah will send them to Hell if they do not join the slaughter.

Unlike nearly all of the Old Testament verses of violence, the verses of violence in the Quran are mostly open-ended, meaning that they are not restrained by the historical context of the surrounding text (although many Muslims choose to think of them that way). They are part of the eternal, unchanging word of Allah, and just as relevant or subject to interpretation as anything else in the Quran.

The context of violent passages is more ambiguous than might be expected of a perfect book from a loving God. Most contemporary Muslims exercise a personal choice to interpret their holy book’s call to arms according to their own moral preconceptions about justifiable violence. Their apologists cater to these preferences with tenuous arguments that gloss over historical fact and generally do not stand up to scrutiny. Still, it is important to note that the problem is not bad people, but bad ideology.

Unfortunately, there are very few verses of tolerance and peace to abrogate or even balance out the many that call for nonbelievers to be fought and subdued until they either accept humiliation, convert to Islam, or are killed. Muhammad’s own martial legacy, along with the remarkable stress on violence found in the Quran, have produced a trail of blood and tears across world history.

So is the author criticizing Christians for being too peaceful and not as violent as his reading of the Bible or is he justifying Islam for its barbarism as more orthodox?

The Bible includes a passage where Jesus tells us that a tree is known by its fruit.

That’s all anyone needs to know about Islam.

Deuteronomy 4:19 and Malachi 1:11. There is nothing in the quran to compare with these.

It’s not too far off point to note that Hitler wrote a book that could be called “My Jihad”.

From the little bits I have read of the Quran, there is an infinite amount that doesn’t compare. :)

Just more chipping away at the Christian faith to make people ready to accept the false prophet and his teachings, which I am in little doubt now is going to incorporate the merging of islam and Christianity.
