Hurricane Patricia -- the strongest hurricane ever recorded -- weakened slightly as it barreled closer to Mexico's Pacific coast, with sustained winds decreasing to 190 mph and gusts to 235 mph on Friday afternoon, the National Hurricane Center said in its latest advisory.

Residents are bracing for potentially catastrophic 200 mph sustained winds and torrential rains.

The excessive wind speeds, according to the head of the Mexican agency that includes its national weather service, "makes Patricia the most dangerous storm in history."

What’s the topography of the coastline there like? If it’s very flat, it could be tantamount to one of the recent tsunamis.

Yep....we only have about three decades of accurate satellite data on hurricanes....we have NO CLUE what went on before that.

Most dangerous storm in history? Horsecrap.

Well, if it wipes out half of Mexico it will amount to about $1,300 in property damage.

Sorry, I’m a historian and don’t like folks who recklessly throw around ‘first, biggest, smallest’ and etc.

I suspect that has little to do with being a historian and much to do with being a stickler for the truth.

In a heated debate a liberal friend once told me "I'm not seeking truth, I'm seeking advantage." I think of him frequently as I listen to the Democrats.

No kidding. I have never seen soiled diapers strewn about in public like you see in Mexican towns (they do it here, too!)

I’m surprised they got to the “P’s.” Have I missed a few storms this year?

RECORDED history

Is there such a thing as unrecorded history? We know what they mean but doesn't the word history mean a record of what happened?

A girlfriend and I worked all summer the summer after High School to save up money - and I STILL can’t believe it but - our parents let us go to Acapulco on our own, we were both just 17!

OMG did we have a LOT of fun - and barely avoided some big-time trouble, too. Hand. Of. God. 100%!

I think we packed more interesting adventures into 2 weeks than either of us have had in the past 45, LOL!

Many years ago. I’m not a fan of south of the border or the Caribbean. I am a tour director, but I always turn down jobs to go to those areas.
