This person should have completed their college and gotten a job that pays something before putting her kids through her mothering.
Would she like a little cheese with her whine?
Things might be a little different for her, and others like her, if men were men and women were women.
As long as the Government provides, there will always be providees..
She’s why conservatives support social services.
And why libtards say they don’t.
They made good money...before and during their later school years...
They weren't getting free money from anyone....but me...!! Ha!!
I felt no shame because I was out there hustling and just paying bills ... I needed the assistance and when my slump broke, we dropped the stamps
I never felt shame nor anger .... actually grateful for the availability of a program that was there when needed
I feel for her. I don’t agree with her conclusion re living wage, but it is dang hard to find a job out there and I wish I had the security of knowing there would always be enough food for my kids. I’ve been rich and it is much much easier than being poor. I don’t begrudge her the food stamps. I just don’t like to hear how many people scam the system and take cash From people like that recent $5mil scammer who owned the grocery store and use the tax payer dollars to buy crack and booze.
It was good and relatable given the hard times that many of us are going through but she lost me when she said,
“That’s why I collect assistance without shame. And I’ll continue to do so whenever I need to, until an actual living wage is legislated and applied across the board.”
Although I found her story interesting, I had not found it unique. I was wondering why she would write such a thing, and why a news source would bother to publish it.
Then I got to the last line.
“...until an actual living wage is legislated and applied across the board. “
For over $500 a month (for a family of three) in free food, you can give me all the disapproving looks you want. I think that is a fantastic deal.
From the bus system she describes, the prison job, and her general description in the tag, it sounds like she is in Springfield, Missouri like I am.
She needs to go to Teletech and get a job that will pay $10.50 an hour to start. Our local big chain of convenience stores start at $12 an hour, and our cost of living is very low.
But honestly, she sounds like the type of person who is properly USING the social safety net and not ABUSING it, which is my biggest complaint. If you need SNAP for your kids, I don’t have a problem with you buying nutritious food with it.
But to refocus on her for a minute, with the number of jobs she has said she has had, it sounds like there are some personal issues that makes it so she can’t hold down a job. Starting a job at $10, $11, and $12 an hour isn’t unreasonable considering you will likely start getting raises when you stick with a job for more than six months.
But when I worked at Teletech, most of the people I worked with had trouble holding a single job more than six months at a time. So they bounced from entry level pay to entry level pay for years and decades.
She recounts the litany of jobs she has held, but never lets us in on why she isn’t working in any of them anymore. She also tells us her rent is “dirt cheap” because her grandparents are her landlords.
Sounds like she can’t hold a job and should thank God her grandparents put up with her.
I see references to “kids” but no reference to “father” or “husband”.
“And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!”
From Kipling’s “The Gods of the Copybook Headings”.
The old morals may not have been bad after all.
Unhappily, her skills are nothing to be proud of. I was a divorced mom with 3 children and either worked 2 jobs, or took continuing ed courses to acquire higher level skills. I never used food stamps or accepted any government handout. I made myself valuable and 4 years after being divorced bought a house. Only an idiot would believe that being a fast food server is a career or would take pride in it.
Where is the Father of her Children?
Does she receive Child Support? If not, why not?
Why have Children in the first place if you can't afford to?
Why not Marry the Fiance to save money and have a two income Household?
There are many more questions, but as soon as she starts blaming Employers and demands a Living Wage, all sympathy for her is erased.
Just another whining Liberal like Hillary Clinton blaming the Republicans for Benghazi because they are investigating her Incompetence as SOS.
I always made $1 too much for food stamps..
which means this tart had an income that totaled more than mine because I was supporting her kind in part through MY taxes..
I’m not poor because I’m lazy or stupid or uneducated..
Well there is something wrong! I’ve never heard of anyone who stays that way unless they want too..
A Bern-bot - “until an actual living wage is legislated and applied across the board.”
Sure that’ll work out just fine.
Also - anyone else think she had “help” in writing this article? The writing proficiency just doesn’t match up with the life story imho.
