The discovery of water on the surface of Mars, which just happened to coincide with the premiere of the hit film The Martian, starring Matt Damon as an astronaut marooned on the Red Planet, has caused some degree of excitement for space enthusiasts. NASA is particularly inspired because its central organizing project is “the journey to Mars” which is scheduled to put astronauts on the Martian surface by the 2030s. Journey to Mars lies through the moon

Do we have to go straight through the center or will just a glancing blow suffice?

Inquiring minds want to know ...

If we had continued going to the moon we would most certainly be much more advanced than we are now.

There was that guy who went back in the 60s but I’m guessing he got it on with the chimp when nobody was looking.

Didn’t Red China already claim the moon as their own territory?

I just hate it when people beat me to it with such a wide margin. ;-D

Well, space travel-wise, I suppose. As a species we seem to be stuck in the same old rut.

Went to see “Martian” this afternoon. In spite of having Matt Damon as its star, it was a pretty good movie. The slingshot maneuver, however was old Star Trek material.

Is that the Earth behind him and in his visor at the same time?

What nice patches he has on his right arm.
They look just like the one in the space walk.
Actual space suits instead of training suits?

Water, water everywhere. The poor guy almost drowned in space!

Those concave helments (sic) do that.

The curved visors do all kind of strange things.

I agree, but when Alan Shepard pulled out that makeshift golf club, I think it told the average person that the Apollo program was just fooling around up there and diminished public support.
