Why Mitt Romney should save the Republican Party and join the 2016 race

"Mitt wants to run. He never stopped wanting to run," an anonymous senior adviser of Mitt Romney's 2012 presidential campaign recently told New York magazine. Other members of Romneyworld have denied the former governor is interested in another campaign. But at this stage in the 2016 race, Mitt Romney should start preparing to get back in the arena.

Romney should be ready to enter the field to save his party from an awful reckoning between its leadership and its base, a reckoning that has been brought on by Donald Trump's campaign. Trump has proven that the "strongest GOP primary field in 30 years" is no such thing, creating an opening for the winner of the last primary. If Romney should win the primary, it would be an incredible political comeback. It would also be a gift to his party, forcing on the GOP the reality of a new and stable settlement between its factions.

"Mitt wants to run. He never stopped wanting to run," an anonymous senior adviser of Mitt Romney's 2012 presidential campaign recently told New York magazine.

According to his son Tagg, Romney really didn't want to win the presidency in 2012--and he may be telling the truth. If not, why the hell didn't he so much as mention Benghazi in the foreign policy debate?

Maybe he really does want to run--not to win, but as a troll seeking to torpedo the GOP's chances of victory, as Ross Perot did in 1992.

"Not a single person wants Romney to run again— I think he would poll less than Lindsey Graham—"

Nobody polls less than Lindsey Graham, nobody.

I believe Mitt would just further divide the GOPe clowns. He would pull a few from Jeb, Kasich, Kristie, etc. he wouldn’t pull Trump supporters.

The Cheap Labor Express is getting desperate.

Resurrecting the failed Romney shows that desperation.

They are truly terrified we will elect somone who will shut them down.

Somehow, they will make the argument that their political chameleon is the true conservative. After all, they are making that argument about ¡Yeb!, which is laughable as he supports almost the entire Democrat agenda.

Nonsense!

Mitt Romney is a loser. He lost to an obvious radical Muslim, America hating, illegal alien. Romney couldn't save a coupon.

And it is time for an awful reckoning between the GOP's leadership and its base. The leadership is the problem. It believes that it, not the base, is the party. That hubris is allowing the liberal Democrat traitors to destroy the country.

The last time this happened the Republican party was formed and we had a Civil War. Time for the Republican party to die before we have another Civil War.

Mitt choked last time. If he chokes with Obama, how can he not choke with Putin.

Ah yes, Spineless Mitt the loser. Yeah, that’s the ticket. Another milk toast insider with rich and powerful friends in the Chamber of Commerce. Yeah, we can’t wait to pull the handle for another GOPe amoeba.

What’s the point? Romney ALREADY proved he knows how to take a dive. What does he prove by doing it again?

Lemme get this straight:

So we have one guy in the GOP who has the base energized and is polling so strong, that if the election were held today, he’d BEAT all the DEMS in the field.

And so the GOP’s plan: plot to get rid of him - with talk of propping up the last loser.

Huh?

With these facts on the table, can someone tell me why the GOP isn’t declared dead already?

And mark my words people, if Trump were to somehow pull off the GOP nomination, you will be shocked to see all these RINO’s either endorsing the DEM candidate, or running their own 3rd party guy to scuttle the chances of a Trump victory.

The reckoning between the “leadership” and the base is LONG overdue.

The Donald was and is, intentionally or otherwise, the vehicle of this reckoning. The “leadership” is thoroughly discombobulated, and has no clue as to where to turn, if they believe Mitt is their best option now.

Meanwhile, the Trump Express continues to roll on into territory long unexplored (or never explored) by the “leadership”, laying its own track as it proceeds.

Part populist, part libertarian, and wholly unapologetic, everything that has been aimed at The Donald has either bounced off harmlessly, or ADDED to his momentum.

Lead, follow, or get the hell of the way.

It is too late to save the GOP and even if it was not, Romney is not such a person.
