Trump Praises His Sister, a Pro-Abortion Extremist Judge

Trump Praises His Sister, a Pro-Abortion Extremist Judge by Ramesh Ponnuru August 27, 2015

Donald Trump told Mark Halperin yesterday that his sister, a federal judge, would be a “phenomenal” Supreme Court justice. He also said that “we will have to rule that out now, at least.” If he ever becomes president, let’s hope he rules it out permanently. Maryanne Trump Barry came up in my book The Party of Death for writing one of those heated judicial decisions in favor of giving constitutional protection to partial-birth abortion.

She called a New Jersey law against it a “desperate attempt” to undermine Roe v. Wade. It was, she wrote, “based on semantic machinations, irrational line-drawing, and an obvious attempt to inflame public opinion instead of logic or medical evidence.” It made no difference where the fetus was when it “expired.”

So: The right of abortionists to make a child “expire” by partially extracting her from the womb, sticking scissors in the back of her head, vacuuming out her brain, and crushing her skull to complete her extraction, is right there in the Constitution. But let’s please not have any “semantic machinations.

Don't forget the Nixon/Ford years.

Only the courts can rule it illegal.

I've given up on the courts. Forget 'em. It will be up to the states to deny and defy abortion laws and outlaw murder on a state by state basis.

Or a Constitutional Amendment stating that life begins at conception.

The anti-nepotism rule that was put in after JFK picked his brother to be Attorney General, and which prevented Bill Clinton from giving Hillary a position in the Cabinet, may apply to Supreme Court appointments, but I don’t know.

” I have too much respect for FReepers who hold differing views of him to engage in arguments, save for the small minority who state that they will stay home, rather than vote for Trump if he is the nominee. “ ——————

You said it. I am sorry to see the really nasty remarks emerging between Freepers, over Trump and against his supporters. We had been having so much fun, and felt like Americans again, and enjoying the enthusiasm for a change that Trump alone has motivated by the force of his personality and saying what needed to be said.

My message is that the Trump support is mostly composed of Cruz supporters, too, so Freepers getting too frisky and insulting is naturally not appreciated, so why go there. Trump supporters get enough of that from Megyn Kelly already. And, besides, Cruz would not like it. It’s obvious he and Trump have something going and it’s not whether Trump wants to be his VP.

When Cruz cracks double digits and passes Carson and Bush, maybe we can talk, but I am in destruction mode, with a man who can potentially destroy the GOP, whether they like it or not, and that has to happen, before we can start to hope for anything more in policy changes, foreign and domestic, and a change in GOP direction. Cruz can’t do that, by virtue of holding down his place in the senate, should he not make it. Trump is free to LEAD!! So, he is.

Yeah, I don't know whether it would apply either. Unlike Attorney General (and other cabinet positions), Supreme Court Justices are Constitutional positions. I'm not sure Congress could put in place any rules restricting who the President may nominate for that position. Of course, that point is sort of moot, because Congress would surely choose not to confirm any SCOTUS nominees who were appointed based on nepotism.

If Trump ran his campaign exactly the same way, and did and said exactly the same things as he has and continues to do, i ABSOLUTELY would!

How about you? Do you need the approval of the GOPe before you can choose which candidate you support?

Long before he ran or talked about running for President, he formed a veteran's memorial commission in NYC in the 1980's and he funded it when no other politician would help. Donald Trump built the New York City Vietnam Veterans Memorial Plaza:

Wonderful post. I often think also of how the town of Palm Beach tried to tell him his American flag on his massive property was too large, and he fought them all the way. He's going through it again now in California. I think these public officials are just looking for an excuse to soak him for fees.

So back in August, he had to rule it out. He is opposed to HIS OWN SISTER being a SCOTUS.

Why? I suspect that the Planned Parenthood exposes had a lot to do with Trump’s position on abortion.

Trump on judges:

If you watched the Town Hall meeting yesterday in Aiken, S.C. you would have heard Trump say that Roberts was an embarrassment and a big disappointment and that Thomas was his favorite and that Scalia was also very high on his list of respected SC Justices. — VideoDoctor
