Donald Trump, Counterfeit Republican By GEORGE WILL August 12, 2015
In every town large enough to have two traffic lights there is a bar at the back of which sits the local Donald Trump, nursing his fifth beer and innumerable delusions. Because the actual Donald Trump is wealthy, he can turn himself into an unprecedentedly and incorrigibly vulgar presidential candidate. It is his right to use his riches as he pleases. His squalid performance and its coarsening of civic life are costs of freedom that an open society must be prepared to pay.
When, however, Trump decided that his next acquisition would be not another casino but the Republican presidential nomination, he tactically and quickly underwent many conversions of convenience (concerning abortion, health care, funding Democrats, etc.). His makeover demonstrates that he is a counterfeit Republican and no conservative.
He is an affront to anyone devoted to the project William F. Buckley began six decades ago with the founding in 1955 of National Review making conservatism intellectually respectable and politically palatable. Buckleys legacy is being betrayed by invertebrate conservatives now saying that although Trump goes too far, he has tapped into something, and therefore

I heard he told off Hillary on CNN and they cut him off.He said she committed a serious crime. At another time he said Hillary’s right hand girl’s husband was the biggest pervert in the world and had access to top secret information.I never thought of that.He must know a lot more stuff.
The poster was talking managing money...
tha.. in and of itself does not qualify one to be a Leader!
Thats pretty much all I had to say about the Money Management tack.
Ive noticed that whatever tack one takes questioning Trumps leadership skills...somone else tries to reframe thee man as something else of great value and importance. That tells me they may not be altogether sold on his Leadership ability.
This Republic is Not a Business. We dont need any wheeling and dealing coming put of the Whitehouse. Weve already had more than enough of that.
Hes got the bully pulpit...and thats fine. I dont think in the long term that thats going to be quite enough.
Agreed
Yep
We dont need any wheeling and dealing coming put of the Whitehouse.
Amen! it is the Peoples house Hippys dippies and the rest, but that is what the founders envisioned.
Amen!
there has been more than enough international wheeling and dealing...that we DO know about and likely a great deal more we havent learned about yet.
it needs to stop now.
More like George Shrill
Jim did you see the Larry King interview at the RNC convention the year poppy Bush was elected. Enlightening!
I would really like to believe that Trump is the real deal.
But, you know what they say...
“Talk is cheap, it takes money to buy beer.”
We’ll have to (kindly) agree to disagree, FRiend ;-)
George Will; Counterfeit American, living in the beltway and despising those who don’t.
How many of us are tired of having Will and his fellow beltway elites lecturing us on how to vote and think?
There we go!
Amen!
I tend to agree.
I hate the hippie dippies but they wheel and deal harder than our team.
Wake up America
He should start pacing himself for the long haul. But it's part of how he runs his life in any event. I say we support him for as long as this can possibly go on. Is there any other choice? I say he is runner-up to our best, (Cruz can't make it all the way) rather than this time it coming down (again) to "the lesser of two evils". We have a shot at going for the lesser of two goods in the primary's. It's been a long time.
By wheeling and dealing Im including stuff like fast and furious and several other slimey operations.
if it can be said that enough is more than enough...there we have it.
I sense that trump is addicted to everyday legal wheeling and dealing. That’s fine for his business interests....but out of place in National Leadership!
You need to wake up and listen to Ted:
“Dont worry about Cruz when Trump keeps doing the right thing:”

FRANKLIN, Tenn. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz on Monday warned that the Republican presidential candidates who are slamming Donald Trump do so at their political peril.
Cruzs remarks, which came during an interview with POLITICO as he swings through the South on a bus tour, are among the most detailed comments to date regarding his reluctance to criticize the real estate mogul, who is currently leading the polls in the GOP primary.
I would note that an awful lot of Republicans, including other Republican candidates, have gone out of their way to smack Donald Trump with a stick. Now I think thats just foolish, he said.
Asked why, Cruz paused and then replied, Donald Trump had a rally in Phoenix, Ariz. [to which] between 10 and 20 thousand people came out. When you attack and vilify the people at that rally as crazies, it does nothing to help Republicans win in 2016. Id like every single person at that rally to show up and vote in 2016, knock on doors with energy and passion, and turn this country around. If Washington politicians show contempt and condescension to those [voters,] that is a path to losing at the ballot box.
And when asked whether he wants those voters to eventually support him, he replied, It is my hope to earn the support of the supporters for every other candidate in 2016.
Cruz can’t make it all the way!
How would that be?
Haven’t see it.
Excellent points. I think that you and xzins are right, Jim. Although I’m still keeping a close eye on Trump about Planned Parenthood so, Yes...
1. Hail Mary one: Ted Cruz.
2. Hail Mary two: Donald Trump.
