Just checked my windows update and noticed WIN 10 attempted to download and failed three times.
It is not July 29th...yet.
Anybody else notice this on their system?
I am running WIN 8.1 and everything is compatible for the upgrade.

Not forever. I guess you didn’t hear.
Watermelon causes cancer
Uhmm.....okay.
I also have the Ubuntu 15 upgrade from U14 on another desktop. It takes getting used to, but accepted all my hardware without a hitch on installation. Win10 was not quite that easy to install. But both are OK. I do think that in the end, Linux will be better.
I would be3 major pissed if that happened. I turned off updates long ago being sick of things getting broken from fixes I did not need but some MS weeinie though I did.
And so it begins. I’ll be watching to see how it goes. I’m going to wait for a while before I go for it.
I have no clue why it keeps trying to download and is failing. Its now happened four times.
Do you have plenty of free space on your hard drive?
I have two windows 7 machines that have the update reserved. If you have a pro version you get the pro version of windows 10, if you have a home version you get the home version of windows 10.
Yes, more than enough.
Free upgrade for one year for all 7, 8, and 8.1 installs.
I have used opensuse for years with the KDE desktop. Dual boot, but I rarely use windows as there are scads of updates that take over the computer everytime I try to do so.
Have used Debian on occasion, but I am old and feel no need to change now.
My wife uses windows and I try to keep up with it a little to help her out. Wish she would just migrate to linux, especially on the internet. Everything else she does can be easily taken care of in a linux box.
Am getting interested in trying to use a “virtual machine’ to run windows in linux. Maybe that is the way to go.
Okay. Thanks for the correction.
“So Im going to wake up Thursday and it will have installed itself?”
If your computer is shut down for the night, NO
Leave it on and if everything goes smoothly, you’ll find the sign-in screen waiting for your Microsoft password.
Windows 10 is a free update for windows 7 and 8.1
if installing it within the first year, it is yours free for 10 years. If you fail to install the first year and decide to wait till a year later, you will have to purchase the Windows 10 OS
Thanks for that. It cleared up one point I didn’t totally understand.
No. Windows 7 SP1 will be supported until 2020.
