Museum Called "White Supremacist" after Asking Visitors to Dress Like Painting Containing Kimono
The Social Memo ^ | 7/7/15 | Aurelius

The Boston Museum of Fine Arts is being called "racist" after it encouraged visitors to dress in a kimono to celebrate Claude Monet's 1876 painting "La Japonaise." The painting contains a woman dressed in a kimono:

A group called "Stand Against Yellow-Face @ the MFA" has planned a protest for tomorrow at six o'clock.

According to Stand Against Yellow-Face, "There is no education from curators or staff on the painting itself, nor the "orientalism" that was ocurring [sic] at the time, nor is there any sort of education on the kimono itself.

"The act of non-Japanese museum staff throwing these kimonos on passerbys as a "costume" event is an insult not only to our identities, experiences, and histories as Asian-Americans in America, but affects how society as a whole continues to deny our voices today," they continue. "The MFA has not sought to understand why this event is oppressive and dehumanizing from those of us who have confronted them, but continually deny any wrong-doing or mishandling of this event that invites you to "flirt with the exotic.""

Stand Against Yellow-Face's message turned much angrier later on, saying, "A willingness to engage thoughtfully with museum employees and visitors on the [expletive] of this white supremacist "costume" event are welcome."

It concludes, "If you cannot come in person please call the departments below to make our voices heard, share this event, and bring awareness to this issue whether it's through social media, dialogue with friends and family, or revoking your membership/donations to the MFA."

The museum plans to run the event until the 29th of July. Stand against Yellow-Face plans to protest once a week until the event is ended.

"Kimono comes from the Greek word himona, meaning winter. So, what do you wear in the wintertime to stay warm? A kimono.

But... most Asians are at least polite about it.

I spent my teen years in Japan. I am a registered instructor in the Omotesenke school of chanoyu, the Japanese tea ceremony. I and my family have a half-dozen kimono. Please allow me to respond to this as politely as I possibly can:

THIS IS STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And may God help me, that is as politely as I can put it.

I left them a “positive affirmation” in English and Japanese.

I bet it’ll take a week for them to find someone that can read it.

Was it something like a proper respect that needs to be paid when one dons a kimono?

Nah, they have just caught the liberal rabies virus.

The other Asians have little sympathy for the Japanese.
And whats wrong with wearing a kimono ? The Japanese all wear pants these days, should we get mad at them for that ?

That woman may look better in a kimono.

I demand all asians stop wearing pants. That is cultural appropriation of our Western “pantaloons”, and it’s racist!

They are closing in for what they think is the kill. Their fangs are out and they plan to go for the jugular. Their basic premise is that everything in this country is racist. they hate it passionately and want to wipe it out.

Baka (stupid, idiot) is about as nasty a term as one can say in Japanese about someone else. The phrase would mean something like "it's stupid" or "you're an idiot."

Interestingly enough, the word is written with the kanji for horse and deer. In a sense, it is like calling someone an ass (i.e., donkey, not the derriere, which technically is "arse") in English, though the Japanese don't think of the horse or the deer as being stubbornly stupid, the way English speakers think of the jackass.

So the worst thing you could say about someone in Japanese is that he is a horse-deer?

Follow the money I’ll bet you find this “Stand Against Yellowface” has been created and funded by Chinese Communists with (moral if not direct monetary) support from the progressive liberal democrat communist party and its communist usurper leadership in all three branches of government.

The same as “black lives matter” et al!

In the 1970s Olivia Newton John was very popular in Japan and she donned a kimono while visiting. Racist!

True, I can’t count how many times I see natives dolled up in their white-face costumes, mocking our hallowed cultural traditions. It’s really shameful.

Given that Japanese women traditionally painted their faces white on special occasions (search geisha makeup), I guess turnabout is fair play. Or not.

White paint was internal to Japanese culture, sez the SJW (which I thought was a dating site abbreviation for a while) whereas Japonisme iss cultural appropriation. Not admiration, just white imperialism.

Let me break this down. It’s yet another case of some lib with lots of time and little brains looking for something, anything to be offended about.

Society having given way and acquiesced to just about any and every demand made, they’re left with scraps. They really have to dig deep to find offense.

What liberals want, what they always want, is unending attention. They are what happens when a human becomes emotional stunted at 2 years old, but inhabits an adult body. LOOK AT ME!!! MEEE!!! MEE!!!
