It was a milestone month for FCA.
For the first time ever, Chrysler has outsold Ford in US retail sales, reports Reuters.
Retail sales refers to only cars sold directly to consumers, not counting sales of fleet vehicles to corporate customers. Including fleet sales, Ford moved 223,666 cars and Fiat Chrysler group sold 186,864. General Motors, meanwhile, saw sales slip slightly year over year and sold 265,825 cars.
For the industry as a whole, it was another good month as car sales continue to go up. 2015 is expected to see even more growth in car sales, as the market continues its recovery from the historic low it saw in the aftermath of the credit crisis.
Be glad you didn’t hit the deer in that shitbox.
That that car was even allowed to made into a clay model is just beyond me.
buy the best tires you can
change the oil on a regular basis
keep the brakes working
never, ever, buy or own a Chrysler
I SPECIAL ORDERED one from my camp in Korea and picked it up at a dealership when I got home! First new car I ever owned. I was 22 at the time.
Made of tungsten cowhide.
Well, at least it wasn’t a Fiero.
Pretty amazing, considering they are owned by Fiat. Spent a fair amount of time in Italy during my military career; the locals told me FIAT was actually an acronym for Fix It Again Tony. Most Italians drove them because it was all they could afford.
I had a few Fiats as rentals, driving them between Vicenza and Aviano; individually and collectively, they sucked. On the autostrada, you learned quickly to stay out of the left-hand lane; the Fiat was maxed out at 130-140 km/hr, while the big Beamers and Mercedes blew past at 170-190 km/hr.
Apparently, it took an Italian to remind Chrysler that Americans will still buy a hot-looking car with lots of horsepower. My 13-year-old granddaughter and her friends think the Challenge is the coolest car on the road, hands down. There may be hope for the next generation after all.
Bring ‘em back, dump the Fusion.
Thanks for reminding me of my worst car-buying experience, ever. Had a teenage son who just had to have a Fiero. Put three transmissions in that heap in just over three years. After the first one, I steered him to the auto hobby shop on base, where the manager taught him to how to swap out a transmission. After paying for the second and third transmission, my son’s love for the Fiero faded fast.
The Fiero may not be the worst car ever, but it belongs in the Top 10.
I bought one once thinking it was the problem and it wasn’t. Kept it in the top drawer of my tool box for over twenty years. Might still be there.
Currently 2 of my boys own 1 77 slant six Aspen, 1 80 slant six Volare, and 1 318 v8 77 Aspen all with ballast resistors and none have blown since I picked up the first Aspen for one of them in 2001.
Miracles do happen ;) I wonder if it could have been partly a materials issue. Chrysler had a lot in common with Lucas Electronics back then. Lords of Darkness...
Yea, that and the “Lean Burn” 318. Our Aspen wagon had a habit of stalling when you trying to make a left turn across approaching traffic.
Grrrrr.
Which version of the Fiero was it? The late model cars (especially the GTs with a V6) weren’t bad.
The Fusion is pretty decent. Personally, I would gladly swap the Taurus for a return of the Crown Vic.
Lucas. *SHIVER* Just the mention of that name makes be nervous.
If you bought the 318 with the carter BBD 2 BBL carburetor it might be the problem. Currently you can’t get good replacement accelerator pumps and we chucked them for 2 BBL Hollys and VOILA no dead spots in acceleration.
For those who like modernizing old carburetor cars to use fuel injection, we bought a kit from Mallory (I believe). A throttle body fuel injector an electronic ignition distributor and s brain to connect the two....also an 02 sensor so you must drill and tap the exhaust. The 72 Grand Torino, 350 Cleveland, starts right up ....you can drive without warming and there is never a hesitation and the power curve is incredible.
Hey they were the company first involved with reducing light pollution...sorts... ;)
Ever change the plugs in one?
Without an engine hoist that is...;)
Cops around here are beginning to drive Tauruses. They look silly in them
