The story took a bad twist since then. CAIR and the local media stirred things up calling up the possibility of a "hate crime" since the shooter said something negative about islam. The shooter has been charged with Aggravated assault with deadly weapon, and it may be upgraded to a homicide charge. There is also a hate crime investigation.

If you shoot someone other than a heterosexual christian white male, best to say only kind supportive words.

Interesting to see if they could get 12 jurors yo convict the guy of anything. Hung jury most likely. There will always be a couple of lefty acolytes and Muslim apologists, but 12 is a stretch.
