Sorry, stoners: New study shows ‘medical’ marijuana doesn’t actually help with anything
Canada Free Press ^ | 06/23/15 | Dan Calabrese

Which, of course you all knew, since you only pretended to think otherwise so you could get high without the pigs harshing your mellow.

Honestly, if you ever believed the nonsense that marijuana was “medicine,” you probably don’t have the brain capacity to process the information I’m about to give you. Then again, there’s dumb and there’s willfully delusional. You can have the ability to know better, but choose to embrace nonsense anyway because you want so desperately to get high.

I’d say that still makes you an idiot. Just that you’re an idiot by choice.

At any rate, you know that “medical” marijuana was sold as something desperately needed by the old and the sick suffering from cataracts and glaucoma. In reality, most of the cards approved by doctors go to 25-year-old dumbasses who claim to be suffering from “chronic pain” and “headaches.” The doctors know it’s a scam too, but they don’t care. They figure the public is sufficiently sold on this scam, and many of them probably like to get high too.

But it was only a matter of time before someone actually looked into whether marijuana can function as a medicine. And . . . uh oh:

I have MS...from forums I participate in, the testimony of many of the “users” attest to the fact that it helps many MS sufferers with their spasticity.

Is there medication for spasticity, yes, but the couple spasticity meds offered bring with them sometimes debilitating drowsiness and fatigue. Do the meds eliminate the spasticity, sometimes. In my case, I eventually had to have a pump installed to deliver baclofen straight into my spinal cord because I had reached the max dose of the oral med and was seeing very little relief. Those who use marijuana claim enough relief to be able to quit the spasticity meds altogether.

The truth is, no pharmaceutical company (making anti spasticity meds) wants to compete with marijuana. Doctors and researchers, unfortunately, have much to gain from keeping MSers on meds. Wonder if your doctor is tied to money from Big Pharma? Use this website to see how much your doc is getting from the pharmaceuticals...my local neuro received very little, the total amount probably accounted for a couple lunches brought in by pharmaceutical reps. Our local MS neuro received $66,000 in a 4 month period for speaking fees during seminars for certain pharmaceutical companys and other “gifts” and “food.”

Another interesting article about Big Pharma and Doctors.

Included in the article, there’s a video (scroll down) and
there’s an interesting and entertaining video about doctors and marketing from the pharmaceuticals.

I agree. Please don’t think that I endorse 11 year olds smoking anything. However, the dangers are grossly overstated.

To me, social conservatism can be an contradiction when you force your beliefs on others. “Life, liberty, & the pursuit of happiness” goes out the window when the nanny arrives.

Surely conservatism must include “live & let live” & “mind your own business”. Bullying is not a conservative attribute. Dictating to others on their private matters implies that an equality does not exist between the two.

As for constitutional conservatism, “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.” - the 4th Amendment, seems to be completely ignored by EVERYONE in Washington.

No, once again, the discussion needs to be among freedom loving Americans about the need to drive out the elites from Washington & restore our republic. Then we may have the luxury of discussing the merits of ideologies.

There are scientists outside of the U.S. who are not constrained by our drug laws. If there were solid evidence that marijuana was useful as a medicine then we would know about it. Of course, it does not make sense to classify it as a narcotic and it’s debatable whether or not it should be illegal to be used for its intoxicating quality.

It took me a while, but I found a more honest review of the study in the Guardian. The biggest result was *not* that marijuana didn’t work, but that there hasn’t been enough high quality studies to find out if it does work.

http://www.theguardian.com/science/2015/jun/23/medical-marijuana-unproven-illnesses-edible-products

A lot of credibility was lost here: “They note that repeated recreational marijuana use can be addictive.”

Importantly, high quality studies are most often done by the big pharma corporations, who have no interest in doing studies unless they might make a big profit in doing so.

Government and university studies seem inclined to find results that support current policies, and invariably call for more spending on research.

So JAMA would give up $400.000 from every person that gets cancer for there doctors. And drug company's would give up billions from drugs and treatments. Please look up the work being done in Israel with the full range of cannabinoids like CBD. The only smoke and mirrors is this B.S. story.

There is one thing a Medical MJ prescription stops dead in its tracks, the purchase of a firearm. When the buyer gets run through NICS the DROS is denied.

Question 11e. Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?

The form is federal and MJ is technically still illegal at the federal level and flags the purchase.

This is the first I heard it was supposedly prescribed for chronic pain or multiple sclerosis.

It has been proven effective for nausea and for boosting the urge to eat for cancer patients. Funny how they weren't mentioned in this guy's opinion piece.....he omits the only valid use for it and then sits high on his horse, acting like an ass.

What is clear is that the study concluded marijuana was effective at treating chronic pain and muscle soreness from conditions like MS.

Yup, the author of the posted article is another loudly ignorant Drug Warrior.

Not every drug helps every person

Such basic common sense goes straight out the window with anti-pot fanatics; just yesterday one brayed that "all the literature" says "there are much better alternatives currently available within medicine to treat any malady that marijuana supposedly helps" (but never replied to my request for a direct quotation - imagine my surprise).

get a study made that has determined that marijuana is ineffective for literally anything

Actually, Canada Free Press simply lied about what the study said ... oh, these moral righteous Drug Warriors.

They're trying to describe research results in half a dozen words or less - and probably not always doing the best possible job of it. The key is in those confidence intervals ("CI") for the odds ratios: if the interval excludes the value 1, then there's a less than 5% chance that the observed improvement was due to blind luck.

My neighbor claims it does. My doc said it was not on the list of pre approved health issues for prescribing marijuana, and he wasn’t going to venture outside that list.
