Bishop Hill points us to this video of the Tesla Supercharging station at the Harris Ranch exit of Interstate 5 in California. He writes: How can one resist posting a video of Tesla electric cars being recharged (so it is claimed) using a diesel generator? These people love the environment you see.
The video shows a portable diesel generator next to the charging station and some Tesla automobiles. Watch this short video:

A massive, classical example of the hypocrisy of the liberal left. Recharging enviro-friendly electric cars by burning HYDROCARBONS. The insanity of the concept is really laughable. Oh, but it will be rationalized.
Exactly the point many of us have tried to make about electric cars.
Where is the electricity to recharge electric cars going to come from? In many places it will be electricity generated in coal fired power plants.
Arguably we would be producing much more pollution from increased electric production to recharge electric cars, if we reach a.point where mlions of electric cars are plugged in and recharging every night.
I thought he was going to save the world.
They put the station by Harris Ranch so you can’t smell the diesel fumes. All you smell is cow.
I’m gonna look at the glass half full on electric cars. I think they have the potential be much cheaper to both purchase and maintain if there is a revolution in battery storage. Electric motors are cheap and durable, I’ve read on this topic. So if the industry would switch over, I would think cars would both cost less to purchase and less to maintain. Further, if there was a corresponding new source of cheap electric, such as a new generation of nuclear power plants, the cost per mile would be less than gasoline cars.
Yes it’s silly and hypocritical to own such a car today if your aim is to be an environmentalist. But the potential exist for this to just be a good development in the evolution of the car.
Your tax dollars at work.
“Emission free cars” is one of those things that was designed to foll a gullible and ill-informed public. It is a lie and they know it.
Obviously the power comes from somewhere, and one way or another there’s an environmental impact. Solar? mining & chemical manufacture. Hydro? dams. Nuclear? nuclear. Fossil fuels? well, fossil fuels.
However, it’s not all-or-nothing. You’re not going anywhere on nothing, so let’s drop that straw man. A stationary diesel generator can be significantly more energy-efficient and pollution-reduced than than a mobile ICE.
“Zero emissions” is where the power is used. Nobody sane is contending there is no emissions anywhere at all - that’s stupid.
Yes, it’s amusing to juxtapose the “clean” car with the actual source of power. Still a marked improvement over what most people are driving. Being “conservative” does not mean “hey, let’s trash the environment with our Furd Earthfukr getting 3 gallons per mile”, it’s “let’s be sensible, having learned hard-won lessons, with what we’ve got.”
(Fair disclosure: I drive a LEAF.)
Gee all that inefficiency with burning diesel to spin a generator which is another source of inefficiency with the conversation of mechanical energy to electrical energy. Then comes the conversion of the generator power output to the correct voltage for the Telsa charger. And last the losses in charging the car’s battery pack.
Yes, we know the reality.
LOL
I amazed everytime I eat at Harris Ranch Restaurant that the odor doesn’t permeate the hotel and restaurant.
Freakin awesome steaks though...
Ahhh... Where is his low cost Thorium Reactor research and production of said Reactor / Generators to "charge" these cars... ( Not to mention the grid might need a rehab )...
FWIW, a natural gas fired Co-Generation Unit in your home might be an elegant solution, use a Wankel engine, smmmooottthhh, low vibration.
Would be nice to objectively quantify all that, coming down to total emissions for equivalent ZEV vs ICE vehicles.
Those are the same kinds of idiots that are trying to scare us over global warming into giving up our cars and lighted homes.
I guess he’s more P.T. Barnum than genius.
When you think you know somebody, sheesh.
There, fixed it for you.
I know you’re being facetious, but...
The whole premise that the world needs saving
is what drives most liberals
and causes most of our problems today.
