Bill Nye is pretty sure that the Texas storm was caused by global warming
Houston Science Examiner ^ | May 27, 2015 | Mark R. Whittington

Bill Nye, who once called himself “the science guy,” took advantage of the torrential rains that hit Houston and the surrounding area to get up on the global warming – aka climate change – hobby horse. Tuesday, he tweeted, “Billion$$ in damage in Texas & Oklahoma. Still no weather-caster may utter the phrase Climate Change.” Of course meteorologists, unlike Nye, have spent their careers studying weather and its underlining causes. For a more scientifically accurate explanation of what caused the storms, read the Houston Chronicle’s excellent and fact based analysis.

What you find objectionable is a personal opinion of YOURS

Yeah, that's kind of what happens on forums like this.
People express opinions, it's crazy like that.

if the posts made at Free republic do not offend the owner of the site then you have NO say in the matter.

Some posts I might find in need of criticism.
Be damned WHO they offend.. I can comment about them.
You would limit opinions to only those you like?

I suppose you could always leave if it bothers you enough.

Ah, we get to the meat of it.
You dislike my opinion and so want me silenced, gone, expunged.

Well how nice for you, bless your heart.

Global warming is what caused Hillary to lie about Benghazi.

“It was a hot night in D.C. Hotter than normal, caused, no doubt, by global warming. It was so hot I couldn’t think straight. I couldn’t breath. No, wait. That’s when I found out Bill had cheated with an intern. On this night I was just gasping a little.”

If I remember about SANDY, it was a low grade hurricane, but wide, barely above a tropical storm. It hit when the tides were very high, and two storms from the north also hit at the same time. Plus it came ashore in the most populated area of the USA.

If it had been an area with less population who would have noticed?

That was before Nye was sure the Texas drought was caused by global warming.

Still not up to 1981 or 1989 levels, yet and there is about 40% more man caused CO2 in the atmosphere than there was during those floods.

Warmists forget that some of us have memories. I’ll never forget the African wildlife that floated out of the Grand Prairie wildlife safari that was stuck in flood traffic with me or my car nearly floating away as I drove home from work.

Texans have damned rivers for hundreds of years for a reason, and wasn’t CO2.

I said YOU could leave if it bothered YOU enough.

That involves potential CHOICES by YOU.

I never said I wanted you silenced or expunged, and I do not want you silenced or expunged.

and two storms from the north also hit at the same time

Pretty close. Sandy was a surface low drawn into a very strong short wave (upper low) riding along a deep upper trough. Both of those came from the north and west, they were digging south and travelling east. That combo would have caused a nor'easter even without Sandy, but Sandy merged and added energy.

The important thing is that extratropical storms as strong as Sandy happen nearly every year. There was one earlier in 2012 but nobody cared because it hit Newfoundland. The westward movement of Sandy as it merged with the upper low is pure weather. Happens fairly rarely, although a few times in some years when the patterns are right, but doesn't happen in the majority of years. Coinciding perfectly with Sandy was just a timing phenomenon, and nothing more than unlucky weather for NYC.

Texas has some truly impressive rainfalls back through history. Even though they didn’t measure in many places back then, they have the US record for 4 inches in 15 minutes. That was 144 years ago. Not as far back (1921) they hold the US record for 18 hours (3 feet). Getting less than a foot overnight is notable but a foot of rain in 24 hours or less has happened dozens of times in Texas over the years.

I have the same education as Nye, a BSME, so I feel fully qualified to make a judgment about his scientific knowledge. Believe me, he ain't no 'Science Guy'. He may be a far more renowned TV entertainer and children's teacher than I, but he is woefully lacking in science. There is simply NO scientific basis for rain in Houston being attributed to global warming.

He can't have it both ways. Droughts and rainfalls in the same place, a month apart, can't be both blamed on global warming. Especially since there hasn't been any warming in global temperatures for nearly two decades. Global Warming Theory is a wonderful theory (for the ignorant): All observed weather provides proof of global warming. Only a fool can truly believe that.
