This graphic shows the 10 largest state-to-state migration flows in and out of California for the period 1955-1960 compared to that of 1995-2000. In the late 1950s, the largest flows involving California were all inflows to the state, generally from states in the Midwest or Northeast. This pattern contrasted with the flows in the late 1990s, where nearly all of the largest migration streams involving California represented out-migration to other states.
Well, My wife and I pulled the plug on CA in 97 and eventually ended up in NC. Love it. Love the fact we now have a GOP Gov, Legislature, 2 Senators and now a Congressman. Don’t want to change anything else about the state, or how folks live.
Need to be a law nobody can leave California fences required let them reap what they sow.
It happened well before that.
White Americans destroyed CA.
They invaded in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s from back East.
Anyone who thinks otherwise knows nothing about California.
Not so in the Rocky Mountains, unfortunately.

I am with you. I follow demographic trends with great interest, and how, over time, political thought can shift in a geographic region. Of course not all outflow from CA is of the blue persuasion, but even the so called conservatives among them seem to have a progressive bent on social issues as opposed to what I am used to in SC.
The Northeast voted for Reagan in 1984 for example. If anything the Northeast lost its conservatives thru migration (and death).
I would add that a majority of whites in California vote Republican, even to this day.

Again, I think you need to consider the big fat obvious arrow from the south that is missing from that map.

Not as many Mexicans in NY. But a steady stream of other immigrants have come to NYS. Recently it has been Russians, Dominicans, Indians, Chinese, European Jews and South Americans. Except for the Orthodox Jews from Europe, immigrant citizens vote Democrat overwhelmingly.
Blacks migrated from the South in the 50's and 60's. They and their offspring to this day vote overwhelmingly Democrat.
Hipster rejects from other parts of the country have migrated here over the last 20 years. You see them everywhere in Northern Brooklyn and parts of Manhattan. They vote overwhelmingly Democrat.
Liberal FDR white Democrats have tended not to leave NYS. They think nothing is wrong here. The ones who are still living (and a few dead ones)vote Democrat.
And finally conservatives have been migrating out of NYS over the last 30 years.
Thats how NYS became Democrat after the Reagan years.

I grew up in CA (1959), left as soon as I was able, 1979? Blacks & Mexicans were rude to me & untrustworthy back then. I somehow knew it was going to get worse.
Moved to AZ, until 1992. AZ was much more relaxing but I decided to move on.
My 1st time I traveled back to the mainland for a visit (1993) I saw my first random attack by blacks & maybe a white thugs on an innocent man waiting for a walk light. On the same trip at LAX, I was standing in the check in line when a group of black females behind me talking just loud enough so I heard, ‘man that girl ugly’. I turned ‘round saw they were speaking of me.
I was frightened but more angry both at both incidences.

Going back even further, one might argue we ought not have let the non-Protestant Eastern and Southern Europeans in.
We need a more recent map.
America has exported a very large portion of American manufacturing jobs, in the last 15 years.
Sent them all to China.
America needs jobs. Bring them back. Sure there in an increasing out-flow from the People’s Republic of California, but all of America needs to bring back American jobs.

I think that's the case with most second generation-plus Americans, which is why I'm against illegal immigration. It floods the system and is destroying our country.

BTW, I'm not saying that any single group is thuggish. I am saying that most immigrants vote DemocRAT.
Even those “conservatives” here in Georgia that come from Ohio, Connecticut, New York - wherever, EXPECT amenities like sidewalks on rural lanes, full-service parks and ‘programs’ where they can enjoy life - at the expense of others who have to pay for their SPLOST penchants.
Never once have they driven those country roads and off-roads and looked at the trailers, trailer parks and isolated properties people who want to be free have to contend with in addition to the ‘amenities’ they demand from others’ taxes.
I see 100.000 left Illinois and none coming back. I know of one exception. A guy 1 year older than I that went out there in the 70’s to live with a cousin. He came back a decade later brain damaged from drugs and is still living with his mother.
Yes, and the leftist filth that came here (Washington State) from California is now ruining the politica here, not to mention driving up home prices to near Crazyfornia levels.
