What we know so far about the pilot and co-pilot of Germanwings FL 4U9525; Update: French prosecutor says co-pilot intentionally destroyed the airplane Posted at 7:17 am on March 26, 2015 by Twitchy Staff
After last nights bombshell report from the New York Times alleging that either the co-pilot or pilot had been locked out of the cockpit of Germanwings flight 4U9525 immediately prior to its crash, many on Twitter are asking about the identity and nationality of the co-pilot and pilot.
However Lufthansa, the parent company of Germanwings, wont tell us. From the AP:
Lufthansa chief executive Carsten Spohr described the pilots as experienced and trained in a press conference in Barcelona Wednesday night.
Lufthansa has refused to identify the pilots, or give details of ages and nationality, but it said the co-pilot joined Germanwings in September 2013, directly after training, and had flown 630 hours.
The captain had more than 6,000 hours of flying time and been Germanwings pilot since May 2014, having previously flown for Lufthansa and Condor, Lufthansa said.
But it looks like German media sources are reporting at least the first names of the pilots:
And Le Monde is reporting that it was the co-pilot who was locked out:
Well update this post as we learn more information.
Update. Heres a video of the cockpit door entry procedure that explains how a pilot would be able to lock himself inside the cockpit:
Update 2. French prosecutors say co-pilot was at the controls:
Shaking my head in disbelief..
In a public access aviation database there is:
LUBITZ, ANDREAS GUENTER
RHEINLAND PFALZ,Germany
Yes, I agree. Motive will be known soon, but I think, as a race, we are creating many weak young men who are selfish and self-centered.
Good question.
Andreas Lubitz was the co-pilot of Germanwings flight 9525 who reportedly intentionally crashed the plane into the French Alps and killed all 150 people on board.
Heres what you need to know:
1. He Was German Lubitz, 28, was German national from Montabaur, Germany.
2. He joined Germanwings in September 2013.
3. He had 630-hours logged as a co-pilot.
4. He allegedly locked the pilot out of the cockpit when the pilot went to use the restroom.
5. He can be heard calmly breathing on the blackbox as flight 9525 descended and crashed into the French Alps.

Re:
"Lufthansa, the German pilots union and the Lufthansa flight training school in Bremen where the pilots trained"
which may be relevant considering:
I certainly agree with that, Erik!
If this information is correct for Europe, he should not have been flying a commercial flight. It takes a second class medical designation to fly commercial in the US.
I wonder if Lubitz had a wife or girlfriend? In debt?
Very good info. One of the news stories said he also maintained a residence in Dusseldorf. Also, someone interviewed today said that the audio from the cockpit indicated the pilot and co-pilot communicated just before the pilot left the cockpit. The man interviewed described the co-pilots words as “laconic”
I should have said he described the co-pilots responses to the pilot as laconic.
Someone threw up a Facebook page saying he was a hero of Islam.

630 was his total flying time! Knock off 100 hrs or more from his ab-initio training in small planes and you get about 500 hours. That translates into 6 to 9 months experience in the Airbus A-320.
Squat is right!
But, his JV experience probably will be found inconsequential. SANITY is what’s relevant.
per chance, allahu akbar?
More likely, gay.

Sad to see that all of those passengers were killed by putting their lives in the hands of a mass murderer.
I don’t know facebook. Any idea when page created? Thanks.
This is probably the greatest mass murder at one time by a German since the end of World War II.
