According to a study released this month by Northeastern University in Boston, nonverbal cues such as smiling are sexist.
The study's aim was to find types of sexism that are not readily apparent. Psychologist Jin Goh explained, "While many people are sensitive to sexist verbal offences, they may not readily associate sexism with warmth and friendliness."
27 pairs of men and women participated in the study. They were tasked with playing a trivia game and then talking afterwards.
Scientists concluded that men who are nice to women are, in fact, actually sexist because they are tricking them into accepting the patriarchy.
Professor Judith Hall, a co-author of the study, explained, "Benevolent sexism is like a wolf in sheep's clothing that perpetuates support for gender inequality among women at an interpersonal level. These supposed gestures of good faith may entice women to accept the status quo in society because sexism literally looks welcoming, appealing, and harmless."
People like this were deemed "benevolent sexists," and did such sexist things such as smile, wait for women to answer the trivia question, and use positive words to encourage them.

Hey men, next time you see a woman, snarl at her. She’ll love that.

So did the author identify the approved method of dealing with women for the men in the audience?
This article (and the study) are such tripe...

I am offended by the number of less than attractive women who see themselves as somebody I might want to hit on. Give me a break!

Note to the men posting on and/or reading this thread. There are plenty of women who smile back at you. I promise. I smile at men, just like I smile at women and little kids. Heck, I smile at puppies, too!
That said, whoever published this study is an asocial whack-a-doodle. Just one female’s opinion, of course. YMMV.

The study, published in the journal Sex Roles, says the way a man smiles and chats to women will reveal his true attitude towards the female sex. OK, so when the pretty young hostess seats my wife and I at our dining table and smiles and says "I hope you enjoy your dinner" I should refrain from smiling back and just look mean?
Or, perhaps I should just avoid that restaurant in the first place since it's sexist of them to have a pretty young hostess instead of some mean, ugly lesbian biker chick.

Didn't we go thru all this BS back in the Bush 41 years?
It was getting so bad you didn't dare look a women in the eye when passing them on the street or in a hall way at work. Male bosses were advised to have a third party present in any closed door meetings with a female subordinate. The feminists were in full battle cry.
Bill Clinton came along ... what to do? They quickly reversed course ... compromised to the extent that guys were now entitled to 'one free grope'. Thank you Bubba.

Wouldn’t it be great if more employers could proudly say that they are grope-free workplaces?

Does this mean that the woman that I have given my life, my love and control of all that I have or ever will have for the last 42 years is nothing but a play thing to me?
