My daughter is graduating this summer--she has a dear friend who lives in Seattle and has suggested my daughter might move out there. Daughter could move anywhere she can find job in her field.
My daughter is a conservative tho not a political junkie like her mom LOL. Her friend is probably a moderate, but not particularly political. I have a "moderate" republican friend who said Seattle is just growing by leaps and bounds and lots of young people are moving there.
Though I have no direct say in the matter as daughter is an adult and I have not been in Seattle except for the airport, I am not sure how I feel about the city Seattle or state Washington? From what I have read, most conservative liberty-lovers have left...but I have no first-hand information.
I would appreciate input in the event that my daughter asks for my opinion--eh she usually does.
Anyone have any thoughts on Seattle (preferably first-hand) to share?

My bro took me any wife up Mt. Rainier. It was great except it was so misty we never actually saw the mountain. It wasn't until several days later when we left to go southerly that we actually saw Mt. Rainier in the distance.

I work in downtown Seattle but live 30 miles to the south. I personnaly don’t know any liberals. There are good and bad areas so make sure she does her homework before renting. The lack of sunshine and abundance of drizzaly days are depressing. I stay because I make twice the money that I could anywhere else.
She should go live there. We need young conservatives to live in the belly of the beast; and see how they do things up close.

He isn’t young, but he is conservative, my nephew could use your help. That would make at leas two of you.
Seattle may be more liberal than gay Frisco and Portland. In early 1990’s a younger relative moved to Portland and his best friend moved to Seattle.
At that time they were both moderate independents. In a decade, both were very liberal.
During the next decade our relative started seeing the reality and the grim weather. He moved back to a conservative area near where he grew up.

He is now a conservative. His former friend is a Seattle union thug liberal, and his wife is a left wing Eco freak, who makes a lot of money enforcing Eco economic terrorism.
For the first two years back here, our younger relative would go back to Portland for vacations or invite friends down. Now, he stays in this area and doesn’t invite his former friends to freeload off him. The one conservative he knew up there, an uncle of a former friend retired a couple of years ago and moved near our relative. Like our relative he has severed all relationships with former friends and relatives in the Portland area.
We got so accustomed to Seattle’s overcast skies, when the sun came out, we cringed and called it the evil star of the daytime. To make matters worse, I lived in Tukwila, the car theft capital of the US. If you go to the area, be wary of the melanin-enhanced neighborhoods lest you lose a car. And yup, I have mine stolen and wrecked.
There are conservatives in Portland, too ... just like I’m sure there are in Seattle. But, in Portland, whether liberal or conservative, the people there (in relating to one another) are ... “live and let live” type of people. They may not all be of the same politics, but everyone seems to let everyone go their own way, personally, without a lot of hassle.
Seattle is very liberal just like about every other metropolitan area. That said, you don’t have to live in the city and some outlaying communities are not so crazy. What field is your daughter in?
The biggest question is whether she can stand the weather. Frankly, it sucks and no one should move here . Or at least that’s the joke we all tell each other so no more Californians come here to escape. It is pretty gray much of the year, though the summers are very nice and there is usually little snow in the winter.
Health care— Clinical lab science—either at hospital or a public health department.
If she decides to go wish her well and move on.

Seattle proper is a mess now with mega-construction going on for amazon.com and other big firms. It has become very hostile to conservatives, and property crime leads the nation, so I’ve heard. Crimes against persons are comparatively rare (18-22 murders in a typical year).
It is also very expensive to buy or rent. The main advantages are the mild, 4-season climate, and the spectacular views of the mountains and water - very scenic. Up north are the San Juan Islands and Vancouver B.C. But there are a LOT of gray misty days here.
I would recommend that someone moving to the area select one of the northern suburbs such as Shoreline, Edmonds, or Lynnwood. The east side suburbs (east of Lake Washington - Bellevue, Issaquah, Redmond) are very nice and somewhat upscale, but the commute to Seattle can be a real pain since it’s all funneled through two bridges.
The southern suburbs (Kent, Auburn, etc.) aren’t as well known to me, but they are more middle-class and more accessible to the airport, to horse racing, and Mt. Rainier.
One other note: contrary to widespread belief, Seattle is not on the Pacific Ocean, but rather Puget Sound. The ocean is a several hour drive and/or ferry ride

Sounds like Seattle could use an injection of conservatives. I would never reject a place based only on politics. I never understood why so many conservatives run away.

Agreed! I have told her she could visit brothers in Texarkana, San Jose,cousin in San Diego or PA, friends in Utah and lower Michigan. She has lots of options to explore.
Eastern Washington is extremely conservative and has a much better climate. Not knowing her field of study but I would have her look at the Tri-City area (Richland, Kennewick,& Pasco). Lots of sun and fun and high paying wages if her field is science, engineering, or medical. Crime rate is low and her cost of living compared to Seattle is a lot better as well. Only drawback is it is not very metropolitan if that is what she is looking for.
As an example, I moved from the Tri Cities to Seattle in 1997 and my auto insurance nearly doubled.
Thanks for the information. Not sure exactly what she is looking for—regarding metropolitan or suburban. She is in health care-clinical lab science—hospital lab or public health dept lab.
