Michael Moore: I was taught that snipers were cowards
Hot Air ^ | January 19, 2015 | Allahpundit

Not all snipers, he’s quick to add. The ones shooting at our guys are pretty cool.

I’m too lazy to sift through his archives on Iraq to see if he ever claimed “I support the troops but not their mission,” but if he did, it sounds like he’s past it now.

Michael Moore

My uncle killed by sniper in WW2. We were taught snipers
were cowards. Will shoot u in the back. Snipers aren't
heroes. And invaders r worse

But if you're on the roof of your home defending it from
invaders who've come 7K miles, you are not a sniper, u
are brave, u are a neighbor.

7:35 PM - 18 Jan 2015

The Internet blew up at him and now he’s backing away. Meanwhile, here’s the obligatory “Seth Rogen instantly squanders half the goodwill he earned from the ‘Interview’ fracas” tweet:

Seth Rogen

American Sniper kind of reminds me of the movie that's
showing in the third act of Inglorious Basterds.

1:05 PM - 18 Jan 2015

The film-within-a-film from “Inglourious Basterds” (a lousy flick, by the way) that he’s describing is a Nazi propaganda movie commissioned by Josef Goebbels about a German sniper heroically fending off the advancing allies. I can’t speak to Rogen’s analogy since I’m apparently the only person in America who didn’t see “American Sniper” this weekend, but my sense from the reviews is that it’s sympathetic to Chris Kyle without glorifying his cause. The fact that war is hell seems all too clear; what drives the drama is Kyle and his wife trying to cope with the hellishness and move past it. “For me, and for Clint, this movie was always a character study about what the plight is for a soldier,” said Bradley Cooper to the Daily Beast. That’s the opposite of fascist propaganda, which cares about individual sacrifice only to the extent that it serves the state’s cause. But as I say, I haven’t seen it. I wonder if Rogen did.

Worth flagging all this because, with “Sniper” suddenly a box-office phenomenon, we’re destined to see it touch off more of these cultural skirmishes in the next few weeks. Here’s an … interesting early entry:

Jane Seymour Fonda
✔ @Janefonda

Just saw "American Sniper" Powerful. Another view
of "Coming Home." Bradley Cooper sensational. Bravo Clint
Eastwood. http://www.americansnipermovie.com/

3:10 PM - 21 Dec 2014

I’m curious now to see how the film does at the Oscars. Righties were tweeting last night that Moore and Rogen are channeling Hollywood’s sour grapes that a bunch of anti-war movies about Iraq over the last 10 years went nowhere while one directed by a guy who spoke at the last Republican convention about a man with more kills than any other American sniper during the war is pulling, in Sonny Bunch’s words, “Marvel tentpole numbers” in ticket sales. Probably right, although my hunch is that the sourness of the grapes has less to do with box office than with the movie’s prestige. There’s no unambiguously great, unambiguously anti-war movie from the Iraq era that the war’s opponents can point to, irrespective of box office, as an essential commentary on it. If “Sniper” cleans up at the Oscars (as “The Hurt Locker” did before it), it’ll mean that the most memorable war films of the post-Bush decade are ones that are very pro-soldier and ambivalent about the mission itself. And if there’s one thing a liberal’s not supposed to be ambivalent about, it’s the Iraq war. Bet heavily on “Selma” for Best Picture.

"Hell," he once said, "anybody would be crazy to like to go out and kill folks. . . . I never did enjoy killing anybody. It's my job. If I don't get those bastards, then they're going to kill a lot of these kids. That's the way I look at it."

...a comment from someone who never was in the military - a person that would never be able to join the military - a coward who sucks life out of other people to become rich - no more than a pathetic idiot that if ever faced with a life threatening event would look to others for protection...

Snipers play a role in the multi-layered environment of protection...they are one element of many that provide ground troops over watch and have nothing to do with being a coward.

One could say the same thing about a tanker sitting behind that 122mm barrel — or a gunner pointing the MA DEUCE in the face of the opponent that is holding a kitchen knife...

Moore’s lack of military and operational experience led him to make such a comment and only proves that no one should EVER listen to anyone from Hollywood....they live in dream land and make believe...and are no more than typical walking fairies that get paid to act!

Ask yourself this, “Would you rather have Michael Moore’s fat ass next to you in a fox hole?”

A coward is someone who spouts his mouth off like this and then hides while someone else defends his right to do so.

Clearly, Michael Moore has been taught a lot of things that are absurdly untrue.

Hi 2ndDV,

Thank you for posting this. I’m not sure I have anything original to post, but I do have a few observations about this asinine rumbling by an empty sweatshirt.

Thank you for your service.

I’m sure Moore would find fault with any “role” or “support role” within the military designed to kill the enemy or break things. I’m sure this sanctimonious twit would think it unfair for one side to have Intelligence assets, Codebreakers, or surprise. He would think its not fair. A pox on his house.

I reflected on the “moral” struggle that Truman dealt with before authorizing the launch of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Moore would, by extension, would think him a coward for ending the Pacific phase of the war with such a display of overwhelming force.

As the “Reaper” said yesterday: “I don’t think he deserves the breath that I’m about to give, but I’ll just say, Michael Moore, he wasn’t there in Afghanistan and the last time I checked, he’s never shot anybody with a scoped rifle,” Irving, nicknamed “Reaper,” said. “So I don’t think he deserves the breath that comes out of me right now for that statement.

“I don’t really care what he gives me, a thank you or not,” he added in response to if Moore should be thanking soldiers rather than undercutting them. “A lot of good guys and a lot of my friends died, you know, for his right of freedom of speech, so I’m not really worried about what he has to say.”

http://www.westernjournalism.com/reaper-responds-michael-moores-tasteless-american-sniper-tweet/#mZhR7xt1XxLMTl5u.97

I think the situation with Moore is revealing of his psyche - he is in fact the coward. He is one of those tiny humans that thinks too much of himself.

Thank you for being one who knows the importance of all roles. I would always prefer you on my team.

Guy

The cowardly thinking came for where a civilian in an act of vengeance would shoot RANDOMLY AT INNOCENTS for no purpose other than to kill innocents from places like roof tops where they could not be gotten too.

A military Sniper is a highly skilled trained marksman who aims at and shoots only at specific military targets which have every intention to compromise troops lives and their mission. Sad to say that can mean a kid sometimes.

You never hear these self righteous Brainwashed Freaks criticize such thinks as Islam which Arms Kids with explosives. Send their Liberal a$$e$ over to a third world Islamic hell hole and let them interact and spread their love. /sarcasm Founder wouldn't put himself with hundreds of miles of such harm.

"Flounder" needs to be schooled in the huge moral difference. His teachers who did him and his parents a huge disservice were either Liberal idiots and fools or he slept through his education until college. Idiotic comments from a man who's only war it seems was fighting his way through a Fast Food line or an All You Can Eat Buffet.

““My uncle killed by sniper in WW2.””

To maximize your chance of avoiding being tagged by a sniper there are two things you can do to assist.

One is to present a smaller target to the sniper, and the other is to keep moving, the quicker the better.

If MM’s uncle was genetically similar to his nephew, one can surmise that he was not chosen as a target by the sniper by accident.

If he was politically similar to his nephew, then one has to ask from which side was he shot?

Most ammo expended in combat isn't really aimed, just lobbed in some general direction.

EXACTLY!

To the Liberals, anyone who has decent "dope" on his sights and practices:

B - Breathe
R - Relax
A - Aim
S - Slack (take up the trigger slack)
S - Squeeze the trigger.

is a Sniper.

Every Marine routinely fires at targets from 200 yards to 500 yards, WITH IRON SIGHTS.

"Reach OUT and touch someone!"

I shot a flintlock in open competition for years, did pretty good against the "modern" caplocks.. You never know precisely what lock time will be from shot to shot, a good lock is fast and reliable but variables always exist. If you don't follow the drill with a flintlock no amount of luck is gonna help you.

If you can master a flintlock everything else is easy.
