CHICAGO - In one of his first public interviews since being picked by new Governor Bruce Rauner to be the state's new school superintendent, Rev. James Meeks told WLS 890 AM this morning that he intends to implement the Common Core curriculum in the state's schools. Meeks, a Democrat, headed the Illinois Senate Education Committee while he was a state senator serving his Chicago-based district. He continues to pastor the 15,000-member Salem Baptist Church and has become an advocate of school choice over the years. ...

Well there you have it. Mega-church Pastor James Meeks, spiritual advisor to President Obama, reputed Marxist, pursuer of social justice, is appointed to the Illinois State Board of Education, and will work to implement the leftist youth indoctrination program known as Common Core. The Combine strikes again ...

What the hell is wrong with Rauner? He's been in office one day and already he's stepped in the doo-doo. Does he not know who and what Meeks is? Does he not know what Common Core is all about? So much for the smart multimillionaire. Did anyone else see this coming?

Not Meeks specifically, but I already knew this guy was from deep in the Combine machinery. So my level of surprise was, well, not so much ...

But the Meeks appointment makes sense, politically. Meeks gave Rauner an electoral foothold in Chicago, without which he'd have had no chance, so this is no doubt the reward for that.

Anyone who thought this guy would veer from Combiner dictates is a fool.

I think the millionaires and billionaires, the elite if you will, want Common Core. If Rauner is part of that crowd, he’s playing the game as one would expect.

The way my daughter talks, this is a real problem if you support it. The mothers do not see the vision.

>> Does he not know who and what Meeks is? <<

Of course he does. This is quid pro quo for Meeks helping deliver some inner city black votes to rich WASP Rauner. It's interesting that Meeks loves to beat his chest about how supposedly pro-life and pro-family he was, but has never once supported a socially conservative Republican in his life. Then Rauner comes along and "pro-life" Meeks was happy to endorse the abortion loving RINO.

>> Mega-church Pastor James Meeks, spiritual advisor to President Obama, reputed Marxist, pursuer of social justice, is appointed to the Illinois State Board of Education <<

And you left out "Jesse Jackson's second-in-command at Rainbow-PUSH". The real question here is whether some conservatives are gullible enough to not understand what Meeks is. Disgustingly, I actually heard some conservatives PRAISE the appointment of Meeks to the IL Board of Education, making some laughable claim that he has integrity and is "independent" of the RAT machine.

I find it cute how the Rauner fanboys in the GOP are gushing since Monday about how he's going to "demonstrate conservatism can work in Illinois" and "bring businesses back to the state" and he's "hitting the ground running" blah blah blah. Yeah, he's hitting the ground running alright... running the state right into the ground, that is.

My sons in IL will be just so happy to see this development. /sarc squared

This speaks reams of wisdom for home-schooling, which has put one of my grandsons (of 10 mom-taught patriot kids) as a much-sought doctoral candidate, now in his second year of mechanical engineering.

Ooo-rah for homeschooling in Illinois!

Which conservative will run against Rauner, in the 2018 primary? He got about 40%, last March.

I didn’t see Common Core coming, but I knew, for at least the past 15 months, that Rauner is as liberal as many Democrats.

I agree with you about Meeks. As for Common Core, well, it's his call, and I feel for the parents and kids of Illinois, as they struggle with Commie Core. It's an new era in Illinois with a “Republican” as the new Governor. Well, we'll see.

Republicans in Illinois don't hound out establishment incumbents, certainly not for governor. Rauner has the nomination until he doesn't want it, dies, or is arrested.

In 2006, State Sen. Adeline Geo-Karis, RINO of the 31st District, ran for re-election and lost her primary. She had been a state senator since 1979. In 2010, State Rep. Susie Basi, RINO of the 54th District, ran for re-election and lost her primary.

I agree that it might be difficult for a conservative to defeat Rauner, in the primary, but I hope that a state legislator will try it. That will cause more conservatives to vote in the primary, and they’ll vote for conservative candidates for the U.S. House and state legislature. If the conservative governor candidate loses, that campaign will help him or her, if he or she runs for office in 2020 or ‘22.
