This is the official rule on receptions in the NFL:
“If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact by an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball after he touches the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, the pass is complete.”
I guess the Nfl have become a bunch of panty wastes.
Time to polictcaly correct expel those famous Lynn Swan catches in the 70’s and Dez Bryant’s catch today.
Paging George Orwell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOVE IT! So much better than my Ravens, who you know, just failed.
Boys already beat Seahawks once this year.
Love the fact the fans are owners. That’s why this NY’er is hoping the Packers go all the way.
Yeah, yeah, yeah...and there’s no more “tuck rule”, too.
>>Pereira said. If the ground jars the ball loose, its not a catch.<<
Yep.
But a lot of people think it is still 1960 in these parts.
No, this call was way worse. Bryant caught the ball, put it in his left hand, and held the ball as he dove for the goal line. The ball was completely under his control as he dove. As the ground cannot cause a fumble, it should have been a first down where he came down with it.
Pack ping!
>>His knee was down and he had control of the ball when the ball made contact with the ground.<<
See post 48.

See post 48. You are not only wrong about what happened you are wrong on the rule.

He had already made the catch when he hit the ground. He had is solidly in his left hand.
Exactly! And the Cowflies would have gotten the touchdown anyway.
I, too, was confused by the call which is why I looked it up.
I defer to the former VP of officiating who spelled explained the rule long before today's game. It is what it is.
NONSENSE!
He was the second best QB in the NFL this year, unfortunately today he played against the best QB. But it's garbage to suggest he choked.
Pass incomplete.
Thanks for posting.
Yeah I read that, but when does a receiver no longer be a receiver and become a runner. How many steps. How many yards.
It is obvious to a blind man he caught the ball.
A running back would have never had this call, the ball would have been placed on the 6” yard line.
Yeah I do not think it was a TD.
I think the ref that called it at the two yard line or so had the right call.
That was bad but last weeks was worse.
but that’s a stupid rule....please tell me how it’s a touchdown if he caught the ball at the one inch line and then crossed the plane -but not a catch since he was already in the end zone? And please tell me how it’s a catch at the 20, or the 50, or the 1, but NOT a catch in the end zone??????
No, I don’t have a dog in the fight. Yeah, Dallas probably had it coming after the non call last week against Detroit. It’s just NFL incompetence....double standard for touchdown.
